Shallow Draft Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Are there good or better windshields for our Volvo I am in need of a replacement and price my not be the only consideration. Are there brands of glass to avoid? 2004 Volvo 630, Freedomline, Rear view camera, Max Brake, Jackalopee, 38 ft 4 horse LQ Platinum, 40ft Jayco Talon toy hauler Http:/www.flickr.com/photos/shallow_draft/ Https://flic.kr/p/fqhyAN You are not lost if you don't care where you are!!
RandyA Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Any glass, no matter what the brand, will probably come from China or Mexico. I do not know of any brands that have optical distortion more than another and am not aware of delamination on the edges of the same. That doesn't mean it won't happen or that inferior glass is being used. I would suggest using a branded glass replacement company or a Volvo dealership that is likely to be around if a problem should occur after the glass is installed. I had mine replaced by a group named Discount Auto Glass. That was 5 to 6 years ago and all is still fine. Av8r3400 Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 I own and operate an independent Autoglass repair and replacement business. For the most part glass is glass. There are a few domestic manufacturers, but they are not any better than the imported. Only more expensive. Glass must comply with DOT specs weather it's oem or aftermarket. A Volvo VN tractor is mounted with a rubber gasket. Most companies are capable of doing a quality install on this. Av8r3400 Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 No. The gasket is reusable indefinitely. Av8r3400 Thunderstruck - 2012 Volvo VNL 730 D13 iShift Slick - 2021 Grand Design Momentum 397TH I'd rather die trying to live - Than live trying not to die. -Leonard Perry

Av8r3400 Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 They are exactly the same, my cost on the 1525 is about $5 less. The 1525 goes 2003-2016, and the 1308 is 1997-2014. There is probably a subtle difference in the black edging around the outside of the glass, but they are the same size and shape, completely interchangeable. Av8r3400 Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Replacing the gasket is unnecessary and unwarranted unless it is damaged. My only source for the gasket is Volvo. I have no pricing on this. Av8r3400 Thunderstruck - 2012 Volvo VNL 730 D13 iShift Slick - 2021 Grand Design Momentum 397TH I'd rather die trying to live - Than live trying not to die. -Leonard Perry

The Two piece windshield is DW1311GTY (Passenger) and DW1312GTY (Driver) and would cost about $300 each installed. Maybe a little less if you did both at the same time.
