Yarome
Evidently, Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge went down last night due to recent storm damage on HWY 1 (between San Francisco and L.A.). It will likely take more than a year to repair so adjust your HWY1 travels accordingly.
Lou Schneider
Pfieffer Canyon Bridge has been closed for a couple of weeks now since it started slipping away. The town of Big Sur is divided in half and other landslides along the route have cut them off from the south. Better plan on avoiding Hwy 1 from south of Monterey to north of San Simeon (Hearst's Castle) for the forseeable future.

Lou Schneider
Fish and wildlife bureaucracy is holding up work on a foot trail going around the bridge. Access to Big Sur Villiage has been totally cut off for close to 3 weeks now because Hwy 1 south of town is still blocked by landslides. Meanwhile the Caltrans bureaucracy says the bridge is too fragile to let the stranded people walk across it, yet it withstands 3 hours of pounding with a 6,000 lb. wrecking ball. What's wrong with this picture?
