Am I understanding this right?

Recommended Posts

I have had DTV for 19 yrs and the DNS stations for the last year until I cancelled last month. Just never used the channels because DT changed my locals when we got to Florida with no problem, but I have considered changing to dish pay as you go due to the fact the rv park we winter in offers cable for $15 a month. Now the question, On Dish's website it says 1 receiver per antenna. That means 2 tv's 2 antennas? I know the automatic dishes support 2 receivers, but I sure don't want to buy 2 antennas. Is this correct?

Thanks

Cary

Well, I only have one receiver and one G2 wineguard antenna. I believe that the problem with using a second receiver is that Dish uses two satellites, and the antenna has to switch between them. So, while you can hook up two receivers, depending on what channel you are watching, one receiver might not receive a ddifferent channel. Hope this isclear.

Tailgator and the G2 both look at only one satellite at a time. The G2 will support two tuners, but you can only receive or record programs on the same satellite.

Next issue is Dish wants to treat all RVs the same and dump you off on their RV service which only supports a single tuner receiver and the Tailgator.

You can get a two tuner receiver and use it with a tripod mounted antenna.

If you want to watch two TVs at the same time, you'll be very unhappy getting any dome with Dish. As stated, a dome only *sees* one satellite at a time. That means that if you're watching a TV program on the TV in the living room and your SO wants to watch a different program on the TV in the bedroom, one of you won't be able to watch their program unless both programs happen to be on the same satellite (Dish uses 3 satellites, not 2 as stated above). For the same reason, you won't be able to watch one program and record another unless the two programs are on the same satellite.

If you're going to go with Dish, get an open-faced, multiple LNB dish that can *see* all 3 satellites at the same time. Either a roof-mounted automatic dish like the Winegard Trav'ler, or a similar dish on a ground mount. You'll be much happier if you watch different programs on different TVs, and/or you want to record programs while watching something else.

Where did you get that crap. I happen to have a Hopper 3 as well as others on this Forum with a ground tripod and a Winegard Trav'ler automatic roof dish. Dish has no preferences to what RVers have

Same here, although we don't have a Hopper. When we're traveling, we take one receiver from the house and put it in the RV, on which we have a Winegard Trav'ler installed. We had the same setup when we were fulltimer RVers, except we had two receivers in the RV.

...I think I will just stay with DT...

We have had DirectTV with DNS for about 8 years. They let me suspend my service for up to 6 months per year. We just have one standard definition receiver with no recorder. I use a repeater to transmit the signal to the TV in the bedroom, but both TVs can only watch the same program. I have the cable wiring setup so that either TV can watch over the air programing while the other is watch satelite TV. It works for us, may not work for you.

Mark & Dale, It may be crap, I don't know. I read it on Dish network website. 1 receiver, 1 antenna. ?? does not really matter to me. The only reason I even considered switching from DT was the park I stay in during the winter offers cable at a very reasonable price. That's all. Now, TCW I would be interested in the repeater you are talking about. It would keep me from having to use 2 receivers, and running 2 lines from the dish.

Thanks,

Cary

The repeater only mirrors the channel that is being watched on the primary receiver to the second TV.

that is exactly what I said

This is the one I have. There are others. We also rarely watch both TVs at the same time, so this works for us.
