  1. I think I will. Thanks. It was very annoying when it was limited to 68. No way to pass so when someone was going 65 or so I was stuck.

    HDT advice

I hope you find the right truck for your needs. I looked for quite a few months. I found mine out in Hays, KS. It is a 2010 Volvo 780 with a Cummins ISX 15 CM871. I am in VA as well. I flew out, looked at it and then closed the deal. It has been a pretty good truck so far. It was in need of some TLC to get it back to where it should be. It still needs a few things, but I have to save up for projects. It only left me hanging one time when it blew a heater hose. I have since driven it out to Dallas and back to VA with no issues. I have done three oil samples so far and they have all been in the normal category. I just did all the tests available in Cummins Insite and they all passed. It has the EGR and DPF. (no DEF). I unplugged the EGR for a while and I got between 10.9 and 11.9 MPG bobtail. Of course, I have to plug it back in to do a REGEN once in a while. I have done quite a bit of the catch-up maintenance myself. I had Cummins Service Center do an overhead set. Ouch, it was about $1,700. The said there was a bad rocker. Anyway, it has been a great adventure and it is well worth the cost to me. We are heading down to LA in March most likely. Pretty soon I will be starting to get it set up for a camper. Chuck
  3. I bought the license for Insite a couple weeks ago. I have updated my ECM and ran all the available tests for my engine. I have also changed the max speed from 68 to 72. Now I can actually pass some vehicles. RPM change was only 50. It went from 68@1550 to 72@1600, the very top of my green arc. I figured the license was worth the cost because a shop probably would have charged me a lot for all I've done with Insite so far. Next up, who knows, but guaranteed it will be something. Hahaha.
  4. Haha, I saw that after I posted. Next time I will go to the top and work down.
  5. I like the drop hitch you installed. Is that something you designed and installed, or did you have someone else do that for you? I have been thinking about doing that but have been busy with other projects on my truck. If I can get my setup like yours, I will be able to move campers for lots of folks.
  6. Ah. I just measured it. It's 11.75. I guess that answers that question. Thanks.
  7. Oh BTW, it's a 2010 VNL 780.
  8. Hello all, I have trying to figure out which measurements I need to use for checking my ride height. The calculation form in the suspension manual has Low and High. Each of those has tow sets of numbers as well. I.E. Low - outside rail height dimension 10.5" ; 7.75-8.5" and High - outside rail height dimension 11.75 : 7.0-7.75". Which ones are supposed to be used? I am assuming the difference is for the different tire sizes. I have 22.5" and my initial ride height measures 6 7/8". I am thinking I should be using the High and 7.0-7.75 range. I don't see how I can stretch those bags another 7/8" to get into the Low range. What do you guys think? I am also thinking I will replace the wear plates on the suspension. Chuck
  9. I have not heard of this either. When and where is the vandalizing happening? Campgrounds, storage???

    Air system

    Awesome thanks!

    Air system

Hello All, My system has been running about 125 psi in both the forward and rear tanks. That should be normal, correct? Today after the parked regen was done I noticed the rear tank was about 130 or so. Just a little high. question is, is that typical once in a while? Thanks, Chuck
  12. True. I did start one about this air leak. If topics were titled by the item or repair in question it would be much easier to find. Chuck
  13. Yeah, I am going to get a whole new dryer soon. I am hoping the compressor will hang in there for a while. tomorrow I am checking the lines underneath for leaks. But I’m pretty sure it’s just the dryer.
  14. I removed and cleaned an air fitting that is on the back side of my compressor. I also cut the end off so there would be a clean line going back into the fitting. Fortunately the o-ring was still good. There was some weird crud down in the fitting too. Anyway, no more leaks there. Next will be the air dryer. It has a constant leak coming from the bottom at this rubber piece with a hole in it. I am assuming that is some sort of pressure relief port. It also has some greasy black stuff around the port. once I get that done that hopefully my forward tank will hold the pressure more steady. Right now it is cycling between 125-100 pretty much constantly.
  15. Well it took them nearly 5 weeks, but I had the clutch replaced, DOT and state inspections done. It certainly shifts great now. They were short handed according to the shop. Understandable, seems everyone is shorthanded these days. It was a pricey repair. But it's a part of owning one of these HDT's. I'll just work a little while longer.
  16. Wow, that is crazy. As everyone has said, I’m glad you’re alright. is that covered by insurance?
  17. Awesome, I will check them out. Thanks.
  18. Thanks Rod. Sometimes a relief from the heat is a real blessing I know. I don't like to be too cold though.
  19. Good to know. Currently it is registered as a private truck. That's how I would try to register it in FL. Hopefully that's not a problem. It isn't in Virginia. DMV here doesn't care so long as it is registered.
  20. We are thinking the panhandle.
  21. Hello All, We are pondering the idea of purchasing an RV lot in Florida. I kinda like the idea of domicile there and will be doing some research soon. I know there are posts about it here I will try and locate. My question is, does anyone know of any good locations that may have lots for sale? If I can't find any (been looking) we always have the option to move. However, we may need to wait a while now. I am just trying to line up some retirement ideas. If I end up moving down there I am hoping to get some acreage. I would set up a couple sites for your big rigs. (But my wife doesn't know that yet, shhhh. hahaha) This day/night/day/night shift is taking it's toll more each year. Happy travels. Chuck

    DOT inspection

I agree. I too like to know that mechanically my vehicles is safe and sound. I am getting the clutch done in a couple weeks. I will have them do the inspection when they are done. Like you said, It can't hurt, unless it breaks and I crash, that would hurt.
