  1. If you want to do much Nation Park length will be a bigger issue. If you are headed to wide open spaces length is no issue. For me length was not the issue, it was amenities. Since you are not hooked up, how much power do you need/want, how much water do you need/want, how much holding do you need/want, how large of a fridge do you need/want? For us I wanted a min of 100 gallons of water, I wanted a built in generator with fuel tank and a double door fridge. With this we can easily boondock for a week with only being mindful of consumption and not needing to go to extremes.
  2. I am not sure what you are asking. The links I provided are videos with a transcript of the video. I watched both of what I linked. I have also watched his material for many years, and use some of it for teaching. If you are referring to the explaining the 6% simply, yes I can. Both answers are right, depend on what outcome you want to argue. If you are referring to explaining getting the vaccine or not then he is also using a risk vs benefit or a deliberate risk process to make a choice. In your example, that is the problem is making sure all are being reported appropriately. So if someone died from a traumatic cause, say in a car accident, but were COVID positive what should be listed as the cause of death. All across social media I see people arguing opposite points while using the exact same "data" as their point.
  3. Overall good information. You have to remember the mission of the FS vs BLM is vastly different. I had an in-depth conversation about this with some FS folks in the past couple of weeks. Nothing in the USFS mission has anything to do with recreation and they are not funded to provide it, https://www.fs.usda.gov/about-agency/meet-forest-service The USFS does not have a "roads" budget, roads are managed on the basis of timber sales and access to those sales. Part of the BLM mission is recreation and they do have funding for it, https://www.blm.gov/about/our-mission
  4. There is no easy answer to this problem and like anything else numbers can be made to say what they want. I am not pro-mask or anti-mask. I am, make an informed decision mask. This is no different than any other part of my life. If I was to engage in an activity that has a high risk for catching COVID I wear a mask (N95 if high risk), if not, I do not. More offend than not, I am not doing high risk things. Do you wear a seat belt? Every time you drive a vehicle? Even backing in the parking lot to hook your trailer? Do you have 5 point harnesses installed in every vehicle? They are safer than regular seatbelts? If you don't then you have made a risk assessment. Do you have helmets? Neck braces? Fire retardant clothing? Race car drivers do because it offers more protection. I have never worn a helmet on my utility ATV, but even in states where legal, you would never catch me on a street bike, or a sport atv/motorcycle without a helmet, and likely other protective clothing. Here is a Dr that I follow who I believes does a good job discussing all sides of an issue to make you as informed as possible. This one talks about the 6%, https://zdoggmd.com/covid-death-stats/ This one talks about if he would take a vaccine, https://zdoggmd.com/covidvax/
  5. We mostly boondock. Your two biggest places are UFSF and BLM. Then you have some other misc federal areas like Fish and Wildlife or Army Corps of Engineers. Many states have state land. There are also some areas owned by timber companies that will allow various recreation.
  6. Intersting. I find them from most of the major makers like Victron, Magnum and Xantrex. I did not need a 3000w inverter, but I wanted the hybrid feature found on MSH3012 as I use that feature a lot.

As long as the tank is higher than the dump you can just do regular gravity. You also might not need a full size hose assuming you filled the tank using macerator and everything will be "ground" up. You can even carry a wand to "flush" the tank well. Of course you could also use a macerator to dump from the truck if needed. I know some people use bladders that roll/fold up for storage when not needed, then put them in the bed of the truck and fill them just to run them to the dump. Something like this, https://www.aireindustrial.net/flexible-liquid-storage/pillow-tanks/waste-water-pillow-tank.html In some cases this might make more sense then fixed tanks. For my use I would rather have the fixed tanks since I could use them and the RV. This would give me the option to fill both, then dump both when we leave.
  8. The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is that if you go with 24v batteries then you will have to have at least 1, possibly more depending on your design, DC converters down to 12v. If you go with 12v batteries then you could still use the 24v for charging the whole bank, but be able to wire your 12v stuff directly to the batteries.

I can get my 4 door family car there with no concern or damage. I also currently get my 55' long, 13.5' high combo to these places. Adding an additional 5 or even 10' OAL with a HDTis not going to make a significant difference for the two spots I mentioned above. Yes there are a couple spots we currently go that may no longer be options. With my current set up, there are currently place I can't go that people pulling 25' RV can. Just because a place is a long way from a park or dump station does not mean it is on bad roads. One is less than a mile from a main highway.

I am just the opposite, I can't see using a blue tank. Also they have a limited capacity, even with a large one it is only 30 gallons, and the typical ones you see are 10-15 gallons. You have to have a place to store it vs a built in tank. This might work if you are just traveling across the campground to a centrally located dump. This is not the kind of RVing we do. This year I have spent more time in campgrounds than all of my past years. One weekend was because that is where our friends were staying. The next 4 days were because we needed internet access to do my job, and there no good places in the hills where it was cooler. The temp was over 90* and the cost of the FHU camp was cheaper then running my generator. I then spent just over a week on a wildland fire and the camp was at a fairgrounds. We had access to full hookups, so I used them. We have spent about 90 days in our RV so far this year. In most cases the black tank is really the limiting factor on length of stay as fresh water can be readily found many places. Even for places that have 14 day limits on boondocking may not have dumps readily available if you are staying in the same area. One of the places were went this summer the closest dump was over an hour away and a local place we like to stay is about 30 min to get to the closest dump. Neither of these these places have length of stay limitations. It would be much easier to just run the truck to the dump/fill than to move the whole RV.

Is there a better method for moving black water?

    Off road and winter

While it would definitely off road, outside of that I do not think it would meet any of my other requirement. It would be cool to have one for sure. I have a neighbor that frequently drives one all around the county.

Yeah. Most recommend at least 2x whatever your weight is. I have always carried a block with me, but I have never needed it for a straight pull.

Yes, but snatch blocks also cost money along with the hardware needed to set them up. Often times you are better off going with a properly sized winch.

I have never used a wagon and I have no plans on it, don't even own one. I had planned on using a macerator to get waste from the RV to the truck. I am flexible on tank sizes, but right now with normal conservative water use (daily short but not Navy showers, no excessive running of waters etc) we can go about a week on 100 gallon of fresh. Another 100 would let use easily extend to 2 weeks. The 50 gallon of waste would completely empty most black tanks and help with grey. Also without getting into opinions, grey can be also be dealt with in alternative ways depend on your location.
  16. So do you have 2 twist lock ends and 2 RV plug ends? Typically your more modern RV with detachable cord will have one twist lock end and one "traditional" end. The you use a standard RV extension cord. I did look for a twist lock to twist lock extension cord and never did see one. There are the Hubbell style connectors used in construction, but I never did get a straight answer if they are compatible or not.
  17. It is a 50 amp for sure. Look at the 3 pins you do see, there are 2 that point out, on 30 amp, there is only one and it points in. https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Power-Cord/Mighty-Cord/A10-3025ED90.html?feed=npn&gclid=CjwKCAjw4rf6BRAvEiwAn2Q76o2rSSbfHTjU8LegMtcpIhk-3zoIgt0lfTD3dY7EXZIyBnChinD-PhoCmlUQAvD_BwE

I have looked at the MDT also and not sure they fit what I want for the price they cost. I do know they make true 4x HDT because we get them as tactical water tenders on wildland fires and they are impressive. I do not know for sure, but I would imagine the cost is higher then non 4x HDT and the ride is not as nice. That AWD link looks pretty cool, but I could not find any pricing info.
  19. After seeing the last poster, there is more than one way to ready your question. I took your question to mean you wanted to connect those two together. What are you wanting to "adapt" to?

  21. 50 amp twist lock to 50 amp RV I believe this one should work, but you will need to verify, https://www.amazon.com/Parkworld-886399-Adapter-SS2-50P-14-50R/dp/B079JYS4GT/ref=asc_df_B079JYS4GT/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241924658829&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17556146774675789746&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033769&hvtargid=pla-451300218221&psc=1

That would be a serious winch. Most electric winches top out around 18,000 lbs, but on a quick search found one that is rated at 25,000 lbs, but has a 400 amp draw 😧 Your next option is hydraulic which I am sure gets expensive quick with all the hardware needed. Are air lockers not fairly standard in HDT?

Sounds like a cool set up and maybe similar to what I want to do. Do you have a place I can see some pics?

Off road in the context of HDT and pulling a 5er in appropriate locations, but are off paved roads. This could be main Forest Service or County roads that are maintained. This year we also found a great spot in ID that is down on the lake bed of a reservoir, however you could have made it down there with your typical car. It may include native surface roads in a variety of conditions. However I am smart enough to know I will not be mud bogging, nor plan on it. I am not looking to go extreme, however do not want to be calling a wrecker to pull me out because of a little rain or wet grass. I would attach some images, but I do not have a paid account yet.
