  1. Thanks for the helpful reply, we have two dogs. One the Border Collie is well behaved and can be trusted off leash in controlled areas. He goes on leash when there is traffic auto or human. He has gotten better but he is no fan of strangers.

The other an Aussie is a very friendly dog, maybe a bit too friendly: he jumps on people wanting to get petted. But at the first opportunity he heads for the hills. And I don't mean the nearby hills we have recovered him after running off (he is chipped) miles away. I have had to fortify the fence in our back yard. The Aussie can jump over a 4 foot fence without touching it.

The Aussie is 100% ready to take on other dogs and the BC who is the follower is ready to follow along. One of those training videos gave me an interesting thought: maybe the Aussie is afraid of other dogs and reacts aggressively. Both dogs are bred to protect a flock or herd. But I've been watching and he calms down right away as soon as we are are just past the other dog.

So I want to discourage those behaviors, which I expect will be a slow process. But I think those collars will let us see a light at the end of the tunnel.

We have no plans, not being stupid, of letting the dogs off collar in occupied campgrounds or on trails.

  2. OK wireless fences seem to be out, and thinking about using one on the road seems to be impractical. But what about E Collars aka Training Collars aka Shock Collars. Now let me hasten to add that I watched a couple of hours of training videos on line last night and understand these are training aids and not for punishment. You stick with a leash for quite awhile after starting with one and the goal is to make the dog associate a leash with the e collar so you can dispense with the leash most of the time.

I recommend this video Larry Krohn and his 'dog' Sophie

His daughter Sophie does an excellent job as the 'dog' being trained. Krohn calls the leash "a translator" which conveys your wishes to the dog in a way he can understand. Also involved is a treat pouch full of dog treats.

So any of you out there using one of these? My goal is to convince our Aussie not to head for the hills as soon as he gets loose. And I would want to use it boondocking mainly at least until we are sure of the effectiveness

  3. Actually if the photo owner wants to pursue the matter much more than credit is required. If you don't acknowledge that the photo is copyrighted, and every singe photo is copyrighted the instant the shutter button is press, then you could fall under a Federal Law that grants high fines including attorney and court costs. And If heard of fines well over $50000. That last is the killer from your point of view since it means that attorneys are happy to take these cases since they know they will get paid.

You need to get prior written permission before using any shot. And some photographers use software that searches the net and will find every single use of their images. As you can tell I was a serious photographer and I wrote articles on copyright.

As for the blog, in my opinion you have zero chance of monetizing it the way you imagine. There are literally hundreds of blogs and probably almost as many vblogs about RVing. Some specializing in this sort of advice. And all free. The Escapees right here offers a large set of videos for members covering the same subject matter. Plus there are weekly newsletters packed with free info. Plus next month a weekly RV TV show is starting up. The market is flooded.

The only way to make a little money in a blog is to build up a large following and then you might be able to sell adverts. But so far as I know this is not a source of a lot of cash.

  4. We just put in out reservation for the Escapade.

Someone said something on another list that made me think: "Fulltimers are not on vacation.", Meaning we don't want to rush from place to place but rather should take our time. He was commenting on someones post complaining about spending so much on fuel when they started fulltiming. So go slower burn less diesel.

So with that in mind I reworked our trip to Wyoming starting at the end of May and added 3 and 4 day stops. And I added two overnight Cracker Barrel stops and killed two CG stops. My thought right now is what do you do if you get to Cracker Barrel or Walmart at 3 PM. I'm assuming you wouldn't want to drop your RV and head out to explore. Maybe looking for a Boondocking site might be better.

  5. I fueled up my truck down in the Villages FL for $2.61 diesel a few days ago. Fuel prices did spike during that time period, remember the $4.00 gas and not just in Cali? But current policies have driven prices down and have made the US one of the most productive petro producers in the world.

This thread has given me an epiphany, "Fulltimers are not on vacation." . Since we intend to join that group in May next year I see I'm going to have to adjust my way of thinking.

  6. I don't have anything to compare it with, but I did link my notebook to the visible today and watched some youtube videos w/o a problem. And we only have two bars here. So I'm happy, I'm just trying to get my apps installed. That is one reason I wanted the Moto G7, my old moto was Android 5 and is was running out of RAM, I had to delete something when I want to install something. The visible offer was just topping on the cake tho I would not have bought a $250 phone w/o the rebate. You'll actually make money since, if I read their offer right, will still get the $100 rebate card.

  7. Just looking at the dome I see no way to look inside without some disassembly. Someone said TOGO inserted the SIM before it ships. Ah wait I see a card inserted into a slot near the bottom. The slot is indented and covered with a piece of lexan about the size of a large postage stamp. If you remember what those are...heh. So you could pull a couple of screws and get to it.

  8. I got my Visible Moto G7 power yesterday and think it's mostly setup. The hotspot shows up on my WIFI list but I haven't connected to it yet. I was rather displeased that they knew my VISA card number without me typing anything it. I paid for the phone using PayPal not a card.

I got my TOGO too and have been waiting for the rain to cease to try to install it. But it answered my original question. They have an offer for SlingTV at $20/mo and if you pay for 2 months they send you a no charge Roku Express. Apparently you plug that into the HDMI port on the TV and it acts as a WIFI card picking up TV shows from your WIFI hotspot.

How do you go about getting it replaced? We first had the cardboard Golden Age cards and later when entering a park the ranger replaced those for us with the newer cards with a magnetic stripe but we still have and use the last version of Golden Age cards and have not updated to an America the Beautiful Senior Card and it has never been questioned nor has a replacement been offered.

Probably at the entry station of a NPS park. That's how I got my Access pass replaced. Just show the ranger your old card and ask him how to replace it.

  10. We bought a TV from SAMS Club, same company as Walmart. And it conked out right at the beginning of our long summer camping trip. When we got back it was way out of warranty but they took it back anyway. It took them an hour or so to work out how to do it but we got a full credit. Walmart/Sams, Amazon and Lowes/Home Depot all have very liberal return policies.

I buy a lot from Amazon. And not everything works or fits; I have a pair of shoes that didn't fit on their way back right now. If you trip some warning algorithm they can be more difficult from what I hear. But that's never happened to me. There are scammers out there taking advantage so they try to cut them off.

  11. Yup that's why a lot of people want to stay in one spot for 4 or 5 days at a time, or more. Fuel is probably the major cost especially if you boondock or otherwise cheap camp. Of course you can run up other big expenses if you eat out a lot for example, or stay at RV resorts.

  12. When it stops raining, maybe Wednesday. What I am thinking is this, we has a useless sat tv dome on top of the TT. I'm thinking of pulling that and putting the TOGO dome there. I'm guessing there is a 12V cable under that sat dome which will solve the wire pulling issue.

I was told selling sat TV systems at an RV show that we had an 'old dome' and others have opined it is now worthless. We bought the 2016 RV used and it did not come with the sat tv box anyway. And I have no plans to spend a fortune on sat tv anyway.

The TOGO comes with a Sling TV offer. And also there are two data plans offered 5 GB/month not unlimited for $25/mo. And the unlimited $360/yr plan that everyone talks about.

  13. I bought the TOGO and it got here today and is sitting on my truck backseat, been raining. The other option is Visible (subsidiary of Verizon) using either one of their phones or your phone if it is on their limited approved list. 22GB with network management if the antenna is busy. Which from reports happens rarely or never. I got that since my old phone was due for replacement, I got their Moto G7 power, they transferred the number, price was $200 but they send you a $100 debit card. So a $100 for a $250 phone, no contract and flat rate $40/mo.

The Moto is very attractive since it broadcasts a WIFI signal with your data. You can supposedly use it while towing the RV (or driving the RV) down the road so long as you have a AT&T signal. All you need to do is hook up 12V to the dome. $400 for the antenna and $360/yr paid all at once for AT&T. About the same price for the antenna as some of these cell phone boosters cost.

Are either of these still available?

ATT via TOGO Roadlink C2, $400 for the antenna and $360/yr paid all at once for the AT&T service. That's $30/mo. The antenna has 5 antennas, looks like a sat dome and is self contained. 3 antennas are 4G/3G and 2 WIFI, or maybe the other way around. It only needs 12V to work. And then broadcasts a WIFI signal that you use. Supposedly  you can use the WIFI while driving and towing the RV.

Verizon via Visible (their subsidiary) You need a phone from visible or an approved phone that will take their SIM. Then $40/mo flat rate

Both are 22GB and then if the antenna you are on is busy they can use network management which will slow you down. But reports say that is rare.

I am in the process of getting both. I needed a new phone since mine is running on Android 5 and has problems. So I'm getting a Moto G7 power for $200 with a $100 rebate coming. I also ordered the TOGO which will be here Tuesday.

I'm thinking about pulling the plug on our AT&T DSL which is execrable and just using the WIFI off the camper parked in the yard. So that will save us over $30/mo from what we pay AT&T right now if it is practical.

  15. RV Newsletter

Looks like they want to cut the discount on upcharges to the camping fee. But the big problem is cutting the discount all together during peak season. Pay full charges all summer long?

Don't like it, now is the time to call your senators and congressmen:

    House: (352) 732-1313

    Senate: (202) 224-3121

Calls are the most effective but you can email them too, just write your own email don't use a form letter.

I'm not sure if this applies to Access Passes too.

  16. We are planning going to long term camping starting next May. My wife likes her TV and fears a lack when we do. We traveled for 8 weeks last summer and rarely had a good TV signal. Now I am familiar with the old style batwing antenna that had a crank down in the living room and an on/off amp switch. I cannot find a crank and no obvious switch for the new AF 25Y TT. The batwing lays down on the top of the RV. Is it supposed to raise off the roof? I was told it's omni directional and does not need to be moved, is that correct?

Also when we were in Campingworld yesterday I saw some Winegard TV antennas that the display claims is better that installed units. That would be the sensar

Lastly we have a sat antenna dome installed on the RV, a salesman at an RV show told me it was the 'old style' antenna dome. Could we use that, I dimly understand that there is some confusion in the sat TV market right now. Would we just need a box for the TV and a subscription? How much are the subscriptions running now?

Sorry for all the questions. And thanks for any replies.
