  1. Ditto I was thinking about it until I got to the gfuel used and pollution control equipment. Typical anti-camper hogwash
  2. For some unknown and mysterious reason, there seems to be a sudden change of heart in the lockdown governors. Several have announced that they have to get the economy going again. So maybe things will change by March for the better. I don't think you will have any problems once you get to North Carolina. North of that I don't know.
  3. Yes. First thing--hasve you considered the weight of that much water? 8.33 pounds a gallon plus the weight of the container, 150 gallons weighs about 1500 pounds. Potable water is defined by USEPA regulations: limits are set for over 90 contaminates. If you fill the storage tank with water from a tested water source then you should be good unless you contaminate it someway. Clorox has a web page telling you how much bleach to use to disinfect water. Frankly I think you would be better off just getting a water bladder for temp use, something of a more reasonable size like 30 gallons and refill it as needed. You can find 1 inch backflow preventers here
  4. Now that we are FT we aim for 200 miles/day on travel days but might push it up to 300+ when we are transiting. However our hard travel story was the year we had reservations at Yosemite, like having gold bars. We got delayed by car troubles and when we finally got off, pulling a popup, we crossed from N.Florida to Yosemite in 4 1/2 days. In the car by 7AM and drive until 8 pm or so. Made Texas the first day,West Texas the second. Into New Mexico the third, Kingman AZ the forth and Yosemite the following afternoon. Had a good time in Yosemite.
  5. You might try the state parks with springs: Manatee Spring, Rainbow springs, Blue Springs and others and the fed cg Alexander, Juniper and Salt Springs. This year it seems to be possible to get a spot since visitation is down. Be warned that it is in the 30's here tonight in north central FL, we are having another cold (for us) winter. Anyway those parks are excellent. The Florida Parks system has won the best in the US award multiple times including this year IIRC.
  6. Just stay on I-10 except the I-12 bypass around New Orleans. When you get to I-75 in FL turn south until you get to the Florida Turnpike. Take that to Disney. <ake sure yopu have reservations in the Keys begore heading that way and prepare for sticker shock
  7. Depends on how much space you have but a pair of 6V golf cart batteries will give you much more battery storage. You wire them in series to get 12V. But they are somewhat bigger and heavier than AGM batteries. AGM are at the bottom of the desirability spectrum, and tho they call them deep cycle they really are not. AGM is fine tho if you camp with an electrical hookup every night.
  8. Hardy epic, more like common to fulltimers. We plan on FL to southern AZ maybe TX until the weather warms up a bit. Then up to Northern AZ and NV. From there it depends on the WuFlu Panic situation. We want to do eastern OR with a dip down into Cali for Lassen Volcanic. Then up thru eastern WA to Northern Cascades. We want to be back in N.FL by late APR for appointments and the wife's grandkid time. And then back on the road by mid May to late November. Maybe up to the Escapade in WY if it actually happens this year. That is theoretically scheduled in mid July. We did 7600 miles this summer, FL to ID and back across US 2 partway. The year before was FL to ID, 9000 miles, then all the way up US95 in the ID panhandle to Bonner's Ferry then across on US 2 again. I think that sort of thing is common in the FT community. Alaska is still the future target if the border ever stabilizes back to normality. And of course with the upcoming junta in DC who knows what they may pull out, national lockdown?
  9. Yeah there are a few boondocking spots around the park, not many tho.
  10. We are already in Florida and are leaving for Arizona and at least dip into Cali as far as DVNP. But don't know if we will make it to the coast with the current conditions in Cali. We were headed for Quartzite but the group we were meeting with canceled so I don't know if we will get there. maybe not in time for the show anyway. I think we will take out time crossing.
  11. There are a number of spots like that, this area is one but one the other side of the park is Toroweep but that road is supposed be difficult. When we asked about it at the ranger station we were advised not to try iot that year--washouts. And for that matter there are plenty of places inside the park you can do that if you get away from the campground/visitor center area. They have trails along the rim that run for miles. And the scenic drive will take you to little visited spots on the rim with no rails and not many people but plenty of ravens.
  12. Lots of people seem to use a wire transfer, probably easier to setup
  13. I kept looking into the area after I posted. When we visited the area it was FS land, I'm positive since a couple of fellows in a FS truck came by and chatted for a minute or two. But now it seems to be BLM land. Do they trade land back and forth? Obviously BLM land is better than FS for boondocking. There was a camp set up on the rim a couple of tents, occupants were not there tho.
  14. GCNP North Rim We found this spot right on the canyon edge years ago just exploring backroads and I have trying to find it on the map for a long time. It is east of Jacob Lake off 89A and down south on House Rock Valley Rd. I knew it was on that road but every time I looked for that name I kept getting hits on the road North of 89 which runs to very well known sites like Wire Canyon. But the place I was looking for is south on the , what I call, a high speed gravel road FR8910 (House Rock Valley RD) it eventually leads to a well known Nakoweep (sp?) trail which is right on the Marble Canyon Rim. The place we stopped at was at 36.421 -111.902 near that point anyway. You could camp right on the rim. It is a long way off 89 tho, about 25 miles. GMap
  15. OK TMI, if you are so concerned about being near to a full service medical/trauma center then the only thing you can do is stay away from remote areas. Stick to camping in urban parks would be best for you. This is the requirement for AZ FF:
  16. And I just watched another RVerTV episode live from Qsite and the big tent is going up and the rocks and mineral shows are underway. He does a tour of the 5 free BLM sites near Qsite as well: Live from Qsite episode
  17. I'm losing track of this discussion. Normally you have an accident or other medical emergency, hopefully someone dials 911 and the police and EMT's respond. The EMT's then decide if you can ride an ambulance or you need an urgent air lift. My son BTW was a qualified EMT. If you get transported to a medical facility and then those people can decide if you need an air lift out. What is the problem?
  18. My home base is in Florida and that is the third most populated state. This area has three major and I mean multiblock sized hospitals, one a major teaching hospital and one a major VA hospital. Yet the surrounding rural counties are sending a continuous steam of ambulances from those counties to the hospitals here. And by continuous I mean it is unusual to take a 15 minute drive on the local highway here, without seeing ambulances from those counties either coming or going. They all have small facilities, somewhat like what I imagine Parker has. But they cannot support a major hospital. So they send people by ambulance if the case is not too urgent or air if it is to the hospitals here. That is just life in the rural parts of the nation. If some one needs urgent care in Parker or in the outlying areas they will load them on to a life flight and fly them to Tucson or Phoenix.
  19. Only if you are US citizens or essential workers. That's the way I understand it anyway.
  20. I posted a link to an RVerTV episode showing that area in a drive thru a few days ago and the place was anything but crowded. The above quote is obvious advert fluff intended to draw more people in. There are a number of other sources showing that attendance is way down. Canadians make up about 40% of the average population and for the most part they are trapped in Canada. So that alone would cut attendance by almost half.
  21. I would carefully look at what restrictions the Mexican government has in place. No details but from comments by a Mexican resident, I have the impression they are worse than what we have up here.
  22. Well boomerang is kaput, but I posted a video showing the big tent going up so that is likely to occur barring any disruptions from the east coast. The gem and mineral show is already going on. And there are campers out there already.
  23. With all the last minute cancellations disrupting our plans, we are holding off to see if this one actually occurs
