  1. sounds like house battery is no good. as when plugged in to shore power. its getting power from the inverter. do you have two batteries and the load is split between the two. might be some where to start looking
  2. Well not sure based in previous comments. But i have one of those bigger rigs negatively spoke of. Ive made upgrades and upsizing over the years. Started at 30ft Prowler before i knew better. To a CarriLite to a Newmar Kountry aire 39rkwb. Now a 45ft Teton "Big and Tall" Reliance Experience XT4. Reason being always liked the tall part. Only seen a few of these ever. 6'8" in bed room is nice for me at 6'6". Big just meant 6ft longer then my last rig. Yeah 4 slides huge storage and lots of capacity (4115 CCC on the sticker) Awesome cabinetry and a smart floor plan. Just me and my shih tzu so plenty of space for us. Will i get anything bigger probably not. Do i like my Teton absolutely. Weather no longer matters where ever i go the Teton is up.to the task. -10 to 110 so far its seen it all. No sweat either. hurricanes and tornados excluded. Would i do it smaller looking back maybe but doubtful. Maxed out on overall length almost. But hey only live once.
  3. Not inferior. they just looked to be maxed out or straining. the new tires stay round the GY look like they had flat spots just sitting on the ground with them bearing the weight. yes properly aired up too. I had GY614 on my Newmar good tires. For my Teton just needed more tire i thought.
  4. my gvwr is 24k on the sticker. last weighed 6k on the pin and 17k on on the axles.
  5. I was told that is specifically what the officer looked at. The sticker in the door jam. Front and rear axle weight ratings as well as trailer weight ratings as well. And based his findings on that. This is what I was told I don't believe my neighbor would tell a story as I seen the ticket as well. I was suspect at first and started digging into the law.
  6. I do what I can when those that ask will listen. I simply posted this info to let the RV community know they seem to be cracking down on those that are overweight and its noticeable specifically here in Oklahoma. A word to the wise...be careful. It would stink have to drop the 5ver and go buy a truck or call a towing company to get compliant. If the officer wants to push it that far.
  7. My Neighbor come over to chat and discuss RV's etc. He is staying in the park 2 sites over. He came right over to chat etc and ask questions when he returned from being caught. He was in fact headed east on 40 to the scales at the truck stop. He had been on 40 for just a few miles when he seen flashing lights behind him. Walking up to discuss the tail light and brake light matter and asking for license etc. Is when the officer seen the truck squatting excessively and brought up the weighing matter. Excessive squatting in his case the headlights would have been pointed to the sky at night. This all occured about 1pm in the afternoon. The officer did warn him to remedy this problem as the next officer if hes pulled over can make him drop the trailer until he gets compliant. Also he was told that yes they can pull you over. As he argued it was only commercial vehicles that get weighed. Any vehicle any road according to the law if a vehicle appears to be overweight in OK. No other infraction needed. But he got pulled over for faulty equip and weighed after the fact. Below is the link specifically on this law In Oklahoma https://law.justia.com/codes/oklahoma/2014/title-47/section-47-14-111/
  8. Yes bought it used. I seen the tires and new they needed to be replaced and off to the trailer place i went. Instead of the 235/85/16. I went straight to 17.5..........235/75/17.5 to be exact best thing I ever did.
  9. State Farm insured my Topkick 4500 as a normal vehicle. No commercial insurance.
  10. Class C and Super C the best ive seen are the Dynamax. They are super nice and haven't heard many complaints on them. If moving to a Class B Id say a Renegade or showhauler. Truck chassis and Super big box.
  11. If upgrading in a few years put the sailuns on and save the extra cash.
  12. The GY614 are maxxed and looked flat at the bottom under my teton. They were gone a week after I bought it. I went to 17.5 commercial trailer tire. Rated at 6005 per tire they don't even blink with the Teton on it. My axles are rated at 8K on the sticker on the side of the unit. 24KGVWR. By going to to 17.5 and there weight rating they seem to have less rolling resistance. They remain round and the 614 seem to be flat along the ground where they were in contact with the road. Of course I have a super heavy weight in the 5ver world.
  13. Is there a big slide on one side up front on the fiver. That will account for some weight. Is there a washer or dryer up there on one side.
  14. Here in OK power outages are a very common occurence in spring and fall. Severe weather season 2 to 3 outages a week sometimes. And when its out no not an hour more like 4 to 6. My Onan in my truck weighs 800 pounds and its bolted to the bed. Hmm not going anywhere good luck carrying it. It sure is nice to startup the ol 12.5kw and go back in the house. Even it has to run days at a time no problem. My shih tzu would not like being without his air conditioning in the intense heat. Especially in July when it seemed we were having rolling brown outs. Get an older onan a 4.0BFA or Marquis 5000. Quiet fuel efficient and built like a tank.
  15. After reading the law a little more. I was curuios as to why so cheap. Once you go over 2000 pounds of weight violation. Im guessing weigh all the axles and add total weight violation? It becomes $125 a pound after 2000. So if you go that far over its expensive in a hurry. In hindsight its prob good he got pulled over and fined. Its wakened him to the fact hes short on truck. And not safe for obvious reasons.
  16. He was on his way to scales. After I told him that DRV will put him way overweight on his drive axle. He was prob overweight before in his cedar creek. I told him he needed a DRW. But there are those that have to learn the hard way. In the end 208.90 for over weight and 78 for faulty equip. Costly but not as costly as a big accident.
  17. I agree overweight is overweight. Perhaps my neighbor has learned his lesson knowing him though its doubtful.
  18. Stopping it is a huge part of the equation. And that is what most don't understand. But in passing the law the county commisioners or state congressman etc had to have an idea they could generate revenue making the law to begin with. As i was under the impression it was only commerical vehicles they did the portable scaling. Like it says in the link. The law was passed in 2014 says "Any vehicle on Any Road" and this is the first time ive heard of an rver getting scaled. Big 5ver you obviously would know alot more being in the field for so many years. Don't know if you noticed it big 5ver. The law states the officer can also make you drive to set of private scales (truck stop) to get weighed as well. So he don't necessarily have to drag out that 200 pounds of scales to do so. Which is unique in itself
  19. Interesting they did that Glen. I have that big skylight in my shower. Hard to nap in the afternoon all that light pouring in. I eternabond taped half the dome outside to block some light out. As for roof vents with fans. I have not one in my roof. only holes are the air conditioner holes, and plumbing vents. Almost forgot I do have attic vents up there as well. but they don't come all the way through to the interior.
  20. I agree a slippery slope indeed. Revenue producer for the state county etc indeed. As many come through this campground every evening guarantee half are over weight. They could make a fortune sitting at the on ramp to the interstate.
  21. No they dont have to have a set of scales. Under the law they can weigh you portable or make you drive to a set of scales for the purpose of weighing. Any vehicle on any road as it says. This is the law there using now. Apparently on the books for a few years but only now are they enforcing it or using it to there revenue advantage. https://law.justia.com/codes/oklahoma/2014/title-47/section-47-14-111/
  22. the old addage it will pull it...its a diesel. wont be enough anymore. i agree once a few get ticketed for weight they will start buying vehicles equipped to handle loads there carrying. whats funny is i told him hes over weight. his words that 350 diesel pulls it no problem. Lol now hes looking for a 450 maybe a 550 and wont take any line from a salesman about oh youll be fine. i imagine the rv dealer salesman will get an ear ful too. they said the same thing when he hitched up. you can pull anythimg with that truck
  23. i just read code 14-111 and its a bit of a surprise: A. Any officer of the Department of Public Safety, the Corporation Commission, any sheriff, or any salaried deputy sheriff is authorized to stop any vehicle upon any road or highway in order to weigh such vehicle. Guess that settles whether or not its legal here in OK.
  24. Be careful on that overweight deal. I seen the first RVer get fine for it TODAY. A guy in the park Im staying presently. Went to weigh his new rig. He got pulled over initially for no tail lights or brake lights. His cord was draggin the road. "BUT" the OHP officer seen his headlights pointing up and decided to get his portable scales out. Long story short 650 pounds over weight on his rear axle rating and it cost him $208.90 for the weight fine and 78 for faulty equip. 0-2000 is a standard $208.90 fine Oklahoma City 60 miles east is where this occured. Needless to say the guy is going to look at a 450 or better. It can happen as it did today. I told him he was overweight he wasnt worried till he dinged
  25. He let him go with the fines of course. As my neighbor said he was coming straight back to the park. And he was told to take measures to correct the problem. Because next time another officer may not allow him to move. Consequently he said he will be going to look at a 450 or bigger. As he doesn't want this problem ever again. Im sorry but pulling a DRV suites with an f350 SRW is a big NO NO in my book.
