  1. I will probably end up using something like this: https://www.ebay.com/p/1pcs-of-10a-110v-Digital-Temperature-Controller-Temp-Sensor-Control-Relay-Hot/595245028?iid=141731449329
  2. There's a skydiving place nearby that has such horrible planes, you're always happy to jump out while it's still flying!
  3. We could say that about a lot of things. I enjoy motorcycles and Jeeps; those are two things that create "artificial" tribes or kinships. Or are they actually artificial? In some cases, probably, but there's something that draws people to similar things that comes from a similar way of thinking, also. I started an online motorcycle forum in 2002 based on a specific motorcycle model. It's still active today. The group has had at least two marriages come out of it, one child adoption, and many many extremely close friendships that have helped us through so much over the years. Artificial? Clearly not. What sort of person is a full-timer? They have nothing in common, or they have a lot in common. Probably depends on how you look.
  4. That's actually the only reason we have our house. It's too big for just two people now, and there are other things we could do. But we are within walking or a super-short drive of our best friends in life, and that means we see them a few times a week. And our neighbors who aren't close are also valuable acquaintances. I don't care about the box, but do care about the location. If we sell we could pay cash for a VERY nice rig.
  5. I do have to say that I met a couple who was full timing in a car and tent. But they seemed more homeless than choosing it. And when one came by our camp, it was not a good smell.
  6. There are the rare fulltimers who do it in something tiny. I see them in magazines and on web sites. I've just never met one. So to me they are unicorns; myths of the RV park spread during campfire stories in between ghost stories. But note that I added a LOL and "we all have different wants and abilities." I'm not judging, just looking at it from the average standpoint.
  7. Yeah, that's huge compared to our Jeep towing a 17 footer which is only 7.5' wide. We just camped at a fantastic spot at a totally sold-out, crowded lake because the turn-around at the top was just barely adequate for the Jeep which turns super tight. There was also a hill that needed 4WD for our light little rig, no motorhome is going there. There were four large rigs camped in a crowd at the bottom of the hill. We took the pinnacle for ourselves because nobody else could get there.
  8. And is there another level that's "occasional" verus "part time?" We just do do 1-5 days here and there. Our trailer is too small to live in for weeks at a time. But we don't want something large since we like to be able to go to the places where larger rigs can't. I guess I can say that full-timers just can't know the "true" boondocking experience if they can get there with a full-width, long rig...LOL. We all have different wants and abilities. I personally just don't *currently* understand the appeal of living in an RV full time. Partly because I have hobbies that require space and large tools, partly because I don't feel like I'd be happy being away from my great friends and neighbors who I spend time with several times a week.
  9. The wife has decreed that "we must" upgrade our home mattress to the same one that's in the RV now (linked above). She says it's the best thing she's ever slept in.
  10. The connections were dragged under the rig, and barely fit. No idea if both were newbies.
  11. View didn't seem interesting to me. Well, and especially with a closed curtain.
  12. The front view was a sandy berm, the normal view was the rest of the campground. I'm not sure if they thought the sandy berm was prettier. The first RV had its shades drawn the entire time. The second was a tiny Class B so I don't think they had much "sitting around" space inside and were outside most of the time. Well, I guess they have to put up with the smoke or whatever then too!
  13. We got the three-layer foam mattress below at Amazon in a short queen. Now we're sleeping better in the RV than at home and thinking about replacing the single-layer mattress at home. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BW7H5ZW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  14. We mostly try to avoid RV parks, but we have desires to go to a few places where there simply is no boondocking, such as a recent visit to San Diego. We had two different neighbors come and go. Both parked the wrong way. Meaning facing into the space. This meant they were traipsing out into our area. One complained that a friend's smoking was offensive. Well, we are outdoors, and you could have parked with another 10' of space and your rig separating us. How common is this? Do you ever tell people, "Hey, turn it around?" Tell the camp hosts? I hated it, my wife hated it, and our dogs hated it because one had a yappy aggressive dog.
  15. We have never left anything behind. When we have neglected to have a bag (hey, I thought YOU had them), one of us stays behind and waits for the other to get a bag. It's just not that much effort. We also clean up after others if we notice it. What I'm really sick of is the rampact dog racism in parks, which make our AmStaff unwelcome in half of the parks. He loves everyone and everything, but he's considered vicious and not allowed. Idiots. Meanwhile he was attacked by an off leash Corgi in another park, and the host's answer was, "Well I didn't see it happen." (Also our dog's reaction was "whatever" because that's his demeanor.) Both of the things above are a big part of why we try to avoid RV parks.
  16. They can spend the cash, no problem. They are just emotional about it and would rather throw money away than face the reality.
  17. Well said. I see people regularly get hung up on fees or other costs, and fail to do the math on 1-2 years of TOTAL cost. A friend asked for advice on his crappy Sprint service, I gave him a small spreadsheet showing what he'd save switching even with fees, and he'd be off the junk Sprint service. Wife said nope, "never going to pay a cancellation fee!" Um, but, you gain it back in a few months...
  18. We picked up a short queen multi-layer foam mattress from Amazon, and fell in love with it. Perfect fit, very nice give right away and stays "settled" without sinking further. Lets you move around easily. We already have a single-layer foam at home, but like this one so much it might get replaced anyway. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BW7H5ZW/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  19. PPV, so they can subsidize launching more satellites? Those were all cell phones. It's still very expensive to make sat phone calls, and the phones are terribly expensive and fairly bulky. Source: Had one up until a couple years ago. The planned systems from Amazon, Facebook, and SpaceX won't be wifi; they will operate in the 12-18GHz and 26-40GHz bands, requiring their own receivers and outdoor antennas. These frequencies don't penetrate walls and other objects.
  20. Or even just flown hard, with zero damage. Just exceeded the load rating accidentally.
  21. And most people seem to be Surprised.
  22. I'm never surprised by idiocy in Surprise. People there in general just seem to be awful. I made the mistake of going there a couple weeks ago for a vehicle title change. The wait time shown on the ADOT site was nine minutes, turned out to be 50. While I was paying, someone ran into my motorcycle and sent it flying across the space. On the way out someone called me an a-hole for going out the in door because she was blocking the out door--for no reason. Only about 17 people tried to kill me on my bike while I rode what was left of it home. And this makes the post office there look like a good time.
  23. They are standard Lipos for RC planes and helicopters. I didn't mean to suggest that I'd use them for an RV. Just commenting that I have many years of research and usage on standard Lipos, and know their problems and requirements very well. I have a bunch of chargers, controllers, testers, and the like. So here I'm learning just how different LiFePO4 is from those.
  24. Well, I hate generators too. That part is just about available amp-hours. I'm interested in the info you guys gave on the LiFeP04s in this application. I have 100-some Lipos on hand, and a lot of experience with those, but minimal with LiFeP04 and none in large applications.
