  1. Ok Thanks Dutch. I think we have that option on Direct but with DNS that became a mute point many years (decade+) ago. That answers one question and delete is easy to do. This was a big hurdle for us to get over. Monday I will call the CG installer and talk to him. Chirakawa-I was told by Dish I needed the Outdoor plan and it only came in month by month, I asked for a contract and was told not available. Maybe you are Grandfathered. I guess I could call Dish and get a different person with different answers. I also found out they will not buy out my Directv contract. I need to find out yet when that expires.
  2. Thanks Dutch, I will call a local retailer. I had thought about doing that. Can you clarify the recording of programming on the locals each night. Now, with DNS the channel number is the same each night so there is no interrupt off recording programs. Do I need to update the channel numbers each day as we move to get record the programs? Or does the recorder search automatically for the correct program as the channel numbers change. Dish refused to understand this was a concern. We don't want to make a move and then find out it was a bad move. I found that Dish was not very helpful in this regard. We need to dot the i's.
  3. When I called up I was told the only option they have for RV is the Flex and no long term plan. They told me I couldn't get a residential since I was in an RV even though we have a permanent spot. Also told me the residential could not have its service address changed nightly. Bassed on what I have read here this totally confused me. Do I just tell them I am residential and when I call will they change my service address each night. We are full time. I am also very concerned about the hassle of new station numbers each night for recording of programs. The other confusion was on their site they showed all basic channels coming out from Denver which I had interpreted as a quasi-DNS, just Denver. But was told what that wasn't true. More confusion.
  4. Yes, but it is not worth it to switch for $15. It is the other things that I don't understand that concern us.
  5. 200, does it make a difference, a little more $ a little less $.
  6. I don't know where you are coming. I have no problems with DNS. I am trying to decipher what Dish is telling me.
  7. OK. I am totally confused. I called up Dish to get some information. I was transferred to Outdoors and the Flex I was told the only option I have is to do the month-to-month for $99.99 for the package I want. Reason being there is no contract. Told them I had not problems having a contract but they refused. Not a happy trooper. Month-to-month does not allow lock in of a price. I don't understand programming with the Flex package. I now have DNS with Directv(get my ABC etc from NY), for recording TV programs this is simple, always on the same station. For Dish, I understand moving from location to location and getting locals but what happens 1) when no locals are available(at least OTA) and 2) do I need to reprogram each day the programs I want to record that night if they are on a local to get the correct station. Example: in PHX pgm AAA is on 12, in HOU pgm AAA is on 3, do I need to go through the planned recordings and update to the new station. This all really muddied the waters for us.
  8. 4000 is one way, the roads are not interstates and work is done on roads in the summer, major delays.
  9. Did you mean to say 3 months, impossible to do in 3 weeks. Alaska is 4000 miles one way.
  10. Our Granddaughter used our TX registered van for 8 months in AZ and never a question, this was during the summer when the snowbirds had left. I think this is so far down on the list that no one really cares. Unless they go back to your campground and ask how long you have been there how do they know. Sure they could look at CC records, but really!
  11. And to muddy the waters: Under: Do I Qualify as an AZ Resident If the residency of the applicant is in question, the following factors will be considered. The applicant: 1. Does not claim residency for any purpose in any other state or jurisdiction.2. Has been issued an Arizona driver’s license or an Arizona commercial driver’s license. The possession of an Arizona ID card is not considered evidence of residency. 3. Is employed full-time in Arizona.4. Files federal and/or state income taxes as an Arizona resident.5. Is registered to vote in Arizona.6. Is enrolled in, or has minor children enrolled in an Arizona public school without payment of non-resident tuition. https://dema.az.gov/sites/default/files/Attachments/CNGO_AZGFD_Residence_Fact_Sheet.pdf I have also found references to 9 months but couldn't find the corresponding documentation. Seems to me the AZ each dept creates their own definition of a resident.
  12. What is everyone doing regarding their travel plans? Ours are up in the air right now. We are in our permanent location and can stay but would like to hit the road in a month or so. We have a concern that everyone will be on the road due to cabin fever and the campgrounds will be full. But then we can see no one traveling as they recover from the economy collapse. Your thoughts.
  13. I did see one article a while ago that the Dish CEO said a merger was inevitable. We are looking to switching to save money long term.
  14. It is very expensive for a company to maintain 2 different systems with different support personal, hardware and needs plus needing to negotiate 2 contracts for TV services vs. the economy of scale for 1 service. The migration won't happen on day one but 3-5 years later. All this is hypothetical. We don't do well at forecasting the future.
  15. I seriously doubt they would replace your Traveler unit. We have a Traveler and a tripod but we want the new dish mounted on the roof of the RV spot and we will sell the tripod unit(we are using that now). We figure we have to pay for the Traveler conversion ourselves. They would need to switch out the LNB and update the Winegard box software. Way out of their league. If Dish bought Direct it would probably be years before any conversion would begin.
  16. Is there a website that has this info then?
  17. Visual is so much easier to figure out. Where did you find the map?
  18. We are domiciled in TX and own property in AZ. No questions have been asked and I wouldn't expect any. Many people own 2 homes in different states and RVers are no different. My understanding is the time limit for AZ is 9 months. I have no idea how they would know if you stayed longer.
  19. I had searched for the Outdoor account on Dish and there is no mention on their site. Could it be an old offering that is grandfathered?
  20. Directv has become the poor cousin in the ATT realm. Why they bought Direct is beyond me. I expect Dish will buy Direct in the next year or 2. There will only be one survivor. The only thing Direct has going for it right now is sports. Cost is $40-$50 per month higher than Dish, Dish keeps improving their product while Direct is stagnant. We have been comparing the 2 and are seriously thinking about switching over. We are tired of Direct and their price increases, still need to do a bit more research but are leaning that way. Dish appears to be much more customer friendly.
  21. Can someone with Dish PM me please. I have a few questions.
  22. Other than when a random check is issued to us from Medical(goes to Livingston as mailing address) we get no other paperwork from medical. Randomly a doctor will send a bill but when it shows up I quickly switch to paperless. This is mostly new doctors for us. Our goal is to be paper free and we are very successful. Our biggest frustration is Elks, they have no idea what paperless or email is.
