Sounds like you either have a short between 12v and the backup light or the mechanism the turns the back up light on when you shift into reverse is stuck.  I would start at the socket you were working on and assure all the wires are in the correct socket.

No. it's much simpler than that. I inadvertently flipped on the backup lights switch on the dash.  I rarely if ever use them, so I forget I even have them.

Your simple mistake could help others to do the very same thing . ;) LOL

Why delete ?  I think you should own up and re-title and re- post your OP .
