  1. I have had this problem twice, the fan comes on and the compressor starts but stops in 3 or 4 seconds. I replaced the start capacitor and PTCR to fix the problem. You can purchase a kit from RV dealers or online for about $30. Greg

  3. It doesn't matter what kind of RV you are in. Hurricanes can cause havoc over a very wide area. We have had campground reservations canceled when emergency workers (insurance reps, utility workers, etc) responded to hurricane damage and took over all the campgrounds. Locals also can flock campgrounds when they return and their property is damaged. Until I knew what Dorian does I'd avoid the east coast. We have been chased out of FL and NC three times by hurricanes, not fun. Greg

  6. We ordered our HitchHiker in 2007 without much of the furniture, the only good piece was the table. We bought all our furniture from various stores to suit our needs. OEM RV furniture isn't quality in my mind. Greg
  7. In 2010 we had 8K IS installed by MORryde. The first rubber was too stiff and the fifth wheel rode hard. A couple months later they installed a softer rubber and we travelled a year on them and the ride again became too hard. Fortunately we visit lower MI each summer and stopped at MORryde and the soft rubbers had collapsed. They again replaced the rubber and for the next 7 years until we sold the HitchHiker we had no further troubles, not even alignment. Yes it is possible your current rubber were too soft and collapsed, I'd call MORryde. Greg
  8. MORryde always weighs the RV prior to IS installation, if they did the install they'd tell you the weight and they also measured our height. The weight is used to determine which IS and rubber to install. Greg
  9. Go into the store and give them your card (for security have your spouse go inside with the card) and ask to have the pump turned on then pump all you want. Sometimes they trust you if you just ask them to turn the pump on. Occasionally the pump will allow you to use the card twice or use another credit card if you have two. Greg
  10. Read the manufacturers warranty documentation, does it state not for full time use? If not tell the dealer that so they will hopefully speed up your service. I'd tell them your most time like many snowbirds if it said full time wasn't covered, the unit is only 2 years old so it darn better be covered for that short period of time. Ours was a full time 5W and the manufacturers service was fast so we very seldom had the get a motel room for 1 or 2 nights. If your 5W has been in for service since March it's been 2 months, that's awful service. If you are going to traveling quite a bit you might want to replace the stock suspension system with one like MorRyde's Independent Suspension and upgrade your tires to 17.5" H rated tires. We discovered the stock suspension systems were a serious weak point. You can also upgrade your RV insurance to full time coverage. Greg
  11. I have had GS Road Service once tow the truck and fifth wheel to the Ford dealer then tow the trailer to a CG. A couple years ago I had the truck stuck in wet leaves on an incline at our daughters and GS responded and towed us out of the leaves with no problems. Anyways, GS responded to only a stuck truck.   12. We just settled down in a house after 12 years on the road and DirecTV. I started the 5 day You Tube TV trial at $40/month using cable.. I found it difficult and frustrating to setup and functioning, difficult to use AND I get a letter stating the price is going up 25% after the free trial period. Enough is enough, I just canceled it.   13. We had RV Armor coat our roof in September 2015 while in Bradenton, FL at a campground. We had a leak on the back wall due to exposed screw heads at the rubber roof and rear cap joint. Cost was $4500 including doing 4 slide roofs. Last I heard they no longer do slide roofs. They removed the vent covers and AC covers and dish. It took 4 days due to some rain and heavy dew delays. We did have 2 warranty cosmetic calls as the last of 3 coatings "cracked" in 3 or 4 places. There was no leaks as the original roof and first coats were OK. They responded to us while in Michigan and then Alabama. Their warranty response was excellent and repaired the problems. They also supply a lifetime warranty. They coated the drip edge all the way around the roof and the roof remained white until we sold the HitchHiker this month. We were pleased with the roof. Greg
  14. We are both 72, moderately healthy, and have been full time travelers almost 12 years. We are coming off the road and settling down in a 55+ community. The RV park we are wintering in until the house is ready has had one 18 month full timer die of an aneurism last week. His wife has hired someone to drive their new 45' MH back to their home. At our age we can't take our health for granted.....or finances if invested in the stock market. My question to you is do you have an exit plan if you return to the road? I can understand your desire to get back on the road but in your case I'd need a good exit plan considering age and finances. Greg
  15. We have two thermal breakers, one for the slides and one for the leveling feet. I believe they are 50 and 90 amps. Both are small 2 or 3 inch cubes in size are located in the 12v battery compartment. They are very difficult to see unless the battery tray is slid out. Each one has a "flag" on the side that will pop up when they blow. To reset them just push the flag down into the breaker. Because you hear no sounds when you press either of your slide switches I think you have an electrical problem and if your batteries are well charged I'd look for a breaker or relay that needs to be reset. Slides and feet draw lots of amps to work. Greg

  17. I believe the OP is wanting to know the max psi on his stock wheels as he's considering installing better tires with a higher psi rating. The psi rating is stamped on the inside of the wheel but you'd have to remove the tire to see it. Someone out there must know. Greg
  18. Interesting. I don't recall anyone of our HitchHiker friends or owners on the NuWa Owners Forum having a G114 tire separation problems. Many of us have these tires. In May I had Sailuns replace our second set of G114 tires as they aged out. The Sailuns were $900 installed vs $2200 for GY G114s, BIG price difference. We are not traveling near as much anymore and the Sailuns have a good reputation. Greg
  19. I haven't read any forums stating GY G114 (17.5" H rated) tires have a separation problem. I have had two sets of these tires the last 10 years and had no problems in tens of thousands of miles. I have read lots about GY G614 (16" G rated) tires and experienced problems with a set 10+ years ago. Greg

You have tons of advise here, all I'll add is a strong recommendation to attend Escapee Boot Camp to learn and get ideas from others in your situation and choose a MH you like and a fifth wheel you like. Then spend an afternoon pretending to live in each, sit to watch TV, sit on the toilet, get in the shower, stand in the kitchen reaching appliances and cupboards, access the storage bays, etc. That helped us in making our decision.   23. Our fifth wheel was painted in 2012 so is 6+ years old now and has never been waxed. We were told not to wax it by the painter. We wash it 3 or 4 times a year and it still looks great, we are very pleased. Greg
  24. When we purchased our new home in 2007 it had the standard finish and decals. Three or four years later we had one large decal replaced as it was cracking and the edges peeled. In 2012 the finish was oxidized and many decals were looking bad. We really liked our fifth wheel home, planed to keep it as we had it set up the way we wanted with upgrades over the years, and it was reliable. We had Mike's Custom Paint in Bremen, IN come up with a unique design based on what we wanted, I needed to see what it was going to look like before spending a wad of dough. It took five weeks to prep and paint and we were overjoyed when we saw it. That was six years ago and we still love it. It has three clear coats, we don't wax it, just use soap and water, the black streaks and bugs come off much easier, and it still looks great and shines. I'm wouldn't spend ~$8K on paint for a brand new fifth wheel. I would first want to be sure I really like it, planned to keep it, and spend money on other possible upgrades first. Once I know the fifth wheel is the one I want to keep and reliable then I'd want to spend (probably $11K or 12K) on a custom paint job. I would assume the manufacturer has a limited number of paint designs you could select. Greg
