Even though I had cleaned the coil with water I went ahead and cleaned the roof top coil with a professional grade coil cleaner. It foamed up like shaving cream and boiled out a lot of dark residue. I repeated the cleaning and now I’m getting 18-20 degree differential. unit cycles on and off after replacing the control kit so I’m ok I think. thank you for all the advice and replies. You mean the service person you had look at it never when on the roof and checked the condenser coil, never call him again. The very first thing that should be checked is the condenser. The cover has to be removed because the way the air flows in the sides and out the back so you can't see if the coil is plugged. 18 to 20 differential is perfect. The service manuals usually say that between 18° & 24° is the normal range so you should be good, particularly if you have the blower on high cool.
