Best coastal section

Driving the California coast in a convertible is on my wife’s bucket list.  There seems to be 1 and 101 as an option. Is there a section of coastal driving that will make this unforgettable?  We are in San Diego now and heading up the coast to Washington.  So any section would work.  Thanks for your feedback.

With a car, you should be able to travel on CA1 all of the way. I particularly liked the route from San Simion up to Monterey, and from Eureka, CA to Astoria, WA. Really, the only parts of that trip I would avoid with the type of drive you are thinking of would be the parts through the cities like LA and SF.

I agree with Kirk, Ca 1 until it merges into the 101 in Northern California and then the 101 all the way to Astoria is a perfect convertible trip!.  The 101 in Washington State isn't that spectacular.   Have fun
