jpcoll01 Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 The two overhead lights in the main living area of my 2006 Gulfstream B touring stopped working last weekend. I have checked all fuses and everything looks good on that end. Assume a wire must have wiggled loose? I plan to pull one of the lights tomorrow and check for voltage just to make sure that both lights didn’t just happen to die at once but I can’t imagine that happening. Any other tips to make troubleshooting easier? (Have already tried new bulbs just to be sure)
Ray,IN Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 Describe lights; LED, florescent, incandescent? You are certainly starting at the correct point, power to fixture. Florescent dual bulb fixtures do not work if one bulb is bad; good bulbs but a bad ballast =fixture does not work. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. Kirk W Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 In most cases, the lights in an RV are in a line, supplied by a single wire and using chassis ground. Typically the ground is near each light but if no ground is available a second wire will be supplied. When you check for voltage, try to use a ground that you know to be good as measuring across the fixture will make your reading dependant upon a good ground to that fixture. If you find the wire stops at one fixture that is probably the end of the circuit so then look back from it toward the battery. If there is no power to either light, find the next light back in the string and look for connections as they typically use one of the twist on wire connectors and a bad connection will break the chain turning off all lights from that point forward. If you find that they have a voltage then check for a bad ground and especially so if the two lights happen to share a common ground. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years......
