Velos
I love cast iron skillet cooking but may be getting a glass cook top. Does anyone here use a cast iron skillet on a glass cook top and if so what precautions do you use to protect the cook top? Thanks.
sandsys
My cooktop was an induction burner. Because it doesn't heat anything except the skillet itself. I could put parchment paper over the burner then set the skillet on that. Linda Sand
LindaH
We have a glass top stove at home and the instructions say not to use cast iron. However, I've read about a lot of people who do, anyway. If you want to use your cast iron, don't move it around on top of the glass. If you have to move it, like to another burner, pick it up and *gently* set it down again. I wouldn't try cooking anything that requires shaking the pan while on the stovetop. Ray,IN
I was told the reason we were told not to use cast iron on our 240VAC electric heat glass surface was residual heat damages the heating strip. I never thought to ask why stamped sheet metal pans were OK though.

We used cast iron skillets, griddle, dutch oven, waffle iron, etc., for years and years without a problem. Obviously they are heavy iron, set them down gently. Now i have induction cook top, so still use them.
