Vegas Teacher
O.K. my hitch is on and it looks great! I got two big boxes out of my living room last Saturday and the wife is extremely, extremely happy! I have also been on Jury duty so I have not talked to anybody or posted about it. I would love to post pictures but keep getting told that my pictures are to big to post I really do not understand how to post to this site would love to learn. I bought the hitch from E-trailer. It is a class V universal hitch. The hitch plates were mounted to the frame and then the rail that has the ball was centered, we tack welded the cross bar in place and took the hitch off of the truck for the serious welding. We also took the mud flaps off for later mounting & welding. Yes the batteries were disconnected and the ground was selected very near where the welding was done. With the hitch off of the truck we welded everything in place and hit the welds with some black spray paint. Side plates were mounted back on the truck and the side bars that had the mud flaps were welded back onto the side of the mounting plates for the trailer hitch. I was really fortunate it did not cost me a penny. O.K. it did cost me a little, I traded a pair of Schutzhund decoy pants, that I could not longer fit into, and I bought the two guys who did the work on the semi lunch at the Grande Cafe inside of Sunset Station Casino here in Vegas. Lunch cost 35.00. We started at 10:00 a.m. and finished at 3:00 p.m. The guys who did it both work at an auto body shop and do this for a living. They also have a friend who does body and paint work. One of the Welders used to make boxes on the back of Semi's and is an excellent welder. He wants a chance to give me a quote for the bed on the semi. Aaron was his name. Aaron opened the garage of his house and we did all of the work in his driveway. He used to build specialty beds on the back of work trucks and put Tommy Lifts on them. Kyle was the other welder, he is a part of the Schutzhund club I belong to and he did a great job. So we were talking about what I was doing with the truck and they want to have the first shot a giving me a quote on the bed of the truck. So the moment of truth comes. I attach the cables to the batteries, say a prayer and jump in the cab. After another prayer I put the key in the ignition and turn extremely slowly. Volvo shows up on the center screen and the symbol flips over, truck does its pre-check of systems and then I turn the switch................"Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls and Children of All ages we have lift off." The truck fires up on the first try no damage to the computer from the welding and no damage to the electrical from the welding. The people who did the work knew what they were doing and did a great job. I am going to let them give me the first quote on my truck bed. Later, Vegas Teacher - Cory Ossana P.S. Jury duty was fun but there are a lot of dumb people out there.
