theeyres
The June 2017 issue of Trailer Life reviewed the all new Vilano built for full-time use as Tiffin enters the fiver market. They advertise it as a six-slide, amenity rich fifth-wheel. All is great and very impressive until they get near the end of the article. It has a 16,000 gvwr. When the reviewer filled it with water and LP and added one battery the actual weight left only 360 pounds for stuff. Can you believe it? Full time and only 360 pounds? My cheapy little pull trailer can hold over a 1000 pounds! In a master of understatement the review concludes "...this fifth wheel is a strong candidate for higher rated axles and chassis to make it feasible for heavier loading. What was Tiffin thinking? 2007 Arctic Fox 32.5 rls for full-timing, now sold. 2014 Sunnybrook Sunset Creek 267rl for the local campgrounds now that we are off the road2007 Silverado 2500 diesel Loving Green Valley, AZ (just South of Tucson)
Kirk W
While this is from the Tiffin family, it seems to be a new company that is run by a grandson. Even so, the numbers do look unusual. There are 3 models of this trailer, ranging in length from34' 7" to 40' 6" and dry weights ranging from 12,500# to 14,500# and all with the same 16,000# GVWR so most likely the same frame as well. Since the weights are noted to be "design" weights and not actual, it might be really interesting to run a few of them over a scale. It gets even more interesting when you compare tank sizes. The short one has 54 gallons of potable, 48 of gray, & 45 of black which seem quite reasonable a combination if just a bit on the small side. But if you look to the long one they go up to 90 gallons of gray without any change to the amount of potable water? The company seems to be only 2 or 3 years old but it sure looks like the grandson has a lot to learn if his company is to ever match the reputation of grandpa! Alie&Jim's Carrilite
Just another Lippert assembly of parts that may or may not last. There isn't any of the traditional Tiffin style or craftsmanship in the Vilano line. Same level as Grand Design, Jayco, etc. Definitely not Landmark, DRV, Montana level.
