shaman52
CHEYENNE – The rest area at the Summit on Interstate 80 is closed indefinitely because the caretaker abruptly quit. Without anyone to clean the restrooms or take out the garbage, the Wyoming Department of Transportation was forced to close the facility. Truck parking is still allowed at the rest area, however. The caretaker was an independent contractor with the state and is not a state employee. A WYDOT spokesman said the agency is trying to expedite the bidding process to secure a new caretaker. If the process is not expedited, the rest area could be closed until April. gjhunter01
If the State would set up a FHU site at the rest area it could be a win/win for a volunteer position for some of us. Greg
AprilWhine
It probably has an electrical connection, water is a given so if you have a macerator, there's your full hook ups.
Kirk W
If this one is like it used to be, what they provide is a mobile home pad and connections. I think it also has some sort of stipend but they look for someone permanent, not just seasonal.

Family built the hip-roof house on the north side of I-80 across from the store at Buford. Been to the summit rest area many, many times. There is a regular full-size mobile home site on the premises. Every time I was there, it looked like the same mobile home was there. Don't know if the contractor owned it of the state. I would not want to weather a winter there in and RV. As you know, cold and wind, wind, wind. Many times over 100mph. That is accurate, over 100mph. hitchup
It was windy and cold when we stopped there in early June on our way to the Oregon Coast. So cold, I didn't even get out, just DH and the GD went in to get Things to do brochures.
