We are leaving Thursday heading east.

Stopping along the way? Do we have to watch for you along the way?

I had lunch with Jeri and Terry this afternoon. We didn't say too many bad things about all you guys. That would have taken all day. They wanted to make Anthony Texas today to have some work done so we just stayed in town for lunch instead of going out to the Adobe Deli. After parting I came back to the Ranch and did a little more work on my shop. A very enjoyable day.

We certainly did have to hurry to the Camping World before they closed. A smelly toilet isn't anything we wanted to delay in getting replaced. It was an emergency for sure.

The next day we made a mere 455 miles. Now we're thinking .... what next? Storm is supposed to come in tomorrow. We haven't seen many of those this winter and thank goodness for that.

I finally got the ceiling done in my new shop. Now if my arms and shoulders ever stop aching I can go back to chasing cowgirls. Of course I have a lot of cleaning and sorting to do between chases. Tonight one of my cowgirls invited me out to dinner with the stipulation that I leave my wallet at home. She says it bothers her that I always pay the bill. Here I've been going at it wrong all these years trying to get the girls bothered.

Okay, we've been and let me tell you WE HAD A GRRRRREEAAT time. We did not win. We are sworn to secrecy until the air date of April 28th. We are not disappointed and would do it again in a heartbeat. I can put a couple of things on my blog.

On a negative note, we have now been asked to leave Hollywood Casino and Racetrack. The left hand does not know what the right is doing. The casino staff including security are very nice and happy to have us here. Some construction company has harassed us yesterday morning and this morning before we went to The Price is Right. Tonight there is a notice on our door to leave within 24 hours. We already had planned on leaving first thing in the morning so it doesn't matter. I will post on Yelp and on the Overnight Camping site.

We left the Hollywood Casino at 5:30 am. Very timely considering about 45 minutes out on Hwy 405 - there was a fatal accident. Poor guy. We were delayed about 30 minutes. There must have been another accident at the site, southbound, and the traffic was stopped for 10 miles.

We made it to Bakersfield, filled up at Walmart, and came to Bakersfield RV Travel Park. I found it in the SKP Guide for $25.00 a night. Apparently the rate has gone up but they honored it. Wow, what a park. Pool, games room, library, all pull throughs, free cable, free Wi Fi, pet friendly, propane, store. One to remember for sure.

After our grueling time in Los Angeles, we will rest up at least 2 days.

This morning I made a thing to hold my shop door open and not let the wind blow it closed or any farther open. It works like a charm and got a good testing this afternoon. The wind kicked up to about 30 mph. After I finished that I took a Steeve and didn't wake up until 4:15. I missed happy hour. Tonight I went to the truck stop for dinner and other than shooting the bull with about a dozen people that came to see my shop, that's it for the day

We had MCD shades installed last year. We really like them, but there is one thing that we found out about them that can cause problems. The windshield shades are programmed at installation time to come part way down when the key is on or all the way down when the key is off, so you can't drive blind . The problem is if you happen to let your chassis batteries get too low, the shades lose their settings. That happened to us a month ago, and I finally got around to reprogramming them (this life of leisure is way too busy)! There are 8 steps to this programming process, and if you happen to screw up one of them (or leave it out) you have to start all over again. Finally got them done (and I'm not telling how many times I forgot/skipped a step <_<! I had to take a Steve myself after I finished. The only saving grace is we had happy hour with Mike & Julie shortly afterwards!! :D Now the shades work as advertised! Steve

We left the rat-race behind. We are in Park Sierra boondocking for a week for $30.00. It is pouring rain but we don't even care. It's quiet and safe.

Two things happened on the road today. First one was funny. We came on to the 99 at Bakersfield and there was not one vehicle. I do not lie. Not one. We figured out they had just closed the freeway. The southbound lanes were stopped dead for about 8 miles. Then later on the 99, bombing along at 55 mph with vehicles on either side of us, there is a TIRE. A big TIRE in the middle of our lane. I shouted, Doug swerved around it and I guess the vehicle beside us swerved on to the shoulder. Scary.

We weren't as lucky. Travelling along I-12 in Louisiana in traffic a guy rolls a tire out of the bed of his pickup. He lost control of the tire. It bounced right in my lane and I hit it at 60mph. Lucky it went under the truck and the front axle didn't let it go any farther. I got it stopped without hitting anyone. Bent the front bumper and I don't know if there is other damage. What a pain. He then asked me if I had a jack he could use. No!

Jeff,

Wow, bizarre...rolling tires coming at ya. Does the guy have insurance and if so, will they pay? That's scary stuff!

Have you guys made it safely (other than the tire) to Texas?

Safe travels buddy!

He kept on saying it was an accident like it wasn't his fault. He has insurance and we've talked to them. He talked to them too but didn't claim responsibility. We have a state police report and passed the number to his insurance.

We stopped in Iowa, La. last night. Should be in New Braunfels this afternoon.

Oh no! If a tire falls off your truck, you know it's your fault even though it was an accident. That's definitely a no-brainer. At least you're not stuck in Louisiana and can get it fixed anyplace. Where are you staying in New Braunfels. Your email to us indicated you weren't wasting time getting there and you are right, you aren't! We're still in the Kerrville area. Not quite sure where we're going to be this week. I have a few "family obligations" to take care of. We've been looking at Canyon Lake area but don't know.

Dang, all you guys having problems with tires makes me glad I'm stuck over here in Maui. :-) Weather in the 80's each day, lots of pretty scenery around, and happy hour each day. I did get up early yesterday and made the 2 hour trek to the top of the Volcano for Sunrise. Like to froze my butt off.:-) But it was worth the trip. I hear it's supposed to SNOW again this weekend in the PNW.

Today was not fit for man or beast. The wind blew all day and we had one of those six inch rain showers. (Six drops six inches apart) just enough to make mud on the windows with the blowing dust. I scanned a couple books not really reading them then took advantage of the rocking and rolling of the trailer in the wind and took a Steve. Tonight I went to town and had a nochos supreme. Just to have something to do. The wind is still huffing and puffing but not as hard as it has been all day. Oh we'll, better luck tomorrow.

We looked at your park. They won't take Duchess. I guess that's what we get by traveling with such an old dog. :D We had thought about the COE at Canyon Lake but that's full during the time period we would want to be there. I think spring break must be close. So, not quite sure where we'll look .. maybe Johnson City .. maybe Marble Falls ??? Not sure where we're heading and what we're doing. Meeting with more cousins in Austin on the 9th but that's a day thing and probably won't move the motorhome there. Luckenbach tomorrow and that's as far as our plans will take us.

We made it without too much excitement. Too bad they won't allow Duchess. Are you guys Coast 2 Coast members? There is a park just down the road about a mile.

Not coast to coast but RPI. In the 80's today but it's up and down like a yo-yo with the temperature. We've not spent time in Fredericksburg this trip. We've been there lots in the past. We'll email you once we figure out where and when we'll be anywhere. Tomorrow we're going to drive thru Fredericksburg to get to Luckenbach. Been there, done that but want to do it again.

We finally got a good rain last night. It washed the mud off my windows from yesterday's sprinkles and wind. However it's been chilly most of the day with a high this afternoon of only 61. I did work a little in my shop today but mostly just sat there and read. The park is having an Oscar party tonight. The ladies are dressing up in whatever they have that resembles a gown. It looks more like Halloween to me. I may drop in on them to harass my friends but they can count me out from watching the Oscars.
