  1. I really don't understand why Ford sells both the F-250 and F-350 SRW trucks. They are close to identical, with the main exception of a heavier spring set/rear axle in the 350 which significantly raises the RAWR, which is where most folks get bit with the F-250's. The difference in cost between the two trucks is very slight and there is no advantage that I can see to getting the F-250 if you are buying a truck for towing. So the 2018 F-250 diesel that you bought has the same engine and transmission as the equivalent F-350. What is different is the spring pack on the rear axle and the rear axle itself. Depending on the options the rear tires may be different as well. Only you can decide how to proceed. I'm sorry that you didn't get the information clearly beforehand.
  2. We have volunteered at Goose Island State Park as well as Laguna Atascosa NWR. In both cases our sites were not immediately adjacent to water, but were within a half-mile of the sea. With the winter winds in those areas the salt spray carries a surprising distance, and our bikes really took a hit regarding rust. The hosts that we worked with who actually hosted on the bayside area of Goose Island has salt spray driven directly onto their rigs and suffered some significant rust damage. Salt spray is no joke when it comes to corrosion of vehicles. The car washes along the coast do a very good business for that reason!
  3. By all means take it to the dealer. It's what they do, and with the increasingly complex vehicles we have today they are most likely to be able to diagnose the issue.

  5. I have my credit card set to send me an instant e-mail with purchase location, amount, time, etc. I usually have it before I am even back in the vehicle. So I have no need for paper receipts, or to worry about unauthorized credit card use going undetected.
  6. Right now it is 55 degrees here in Ellsworth, Maine. We're waking up to mid-to-high 40's. Great sleeping temps!
  7. Good to know! It would be many months before we could find out for ourselves.
  8. We had both the E & W DNS feeds when we first got it ten years ago. But it seems that within a year we were shifted to the East feed only. We prefer the east feed as any shows we watch come on "earlier" and can be DVR'd. We were also getting locals when we were back in Central Texas. I wouldn't be surprised if those have gone away in our transition to a mobile account.
  9. For some reason I don't think that is the primary reason in the circumstances described above. But maybe I'm wrong...
  10. But why the desire to video someone that is having problems and perhaps damaging their equipment? Spite because they didn't accept your offer of assistance? You can't just let people be? This tendency of folks to whip out their phone and video unfortunate situations in the hope that their video "goes viral" doesn't say much for those folks.
  11. I agree with all of this. We don't go inside of the store to pay for gas. We pay at the pump or find another station. We too have had the occasion to sit waiting for the pump that we'll fit into, only to have the vacant car at the pump sit for far too long. Eventually the owner will drift out of the store with a fountain drink, some snacks, maybe a lotto ticket or two while checking their phone. When they finally get to their car they seem totally oblivious to the fact that they've blocked a pump for several minutes. The moral of this story: Please clear the pump when you've finished fueling. Pretty please...
  12. I don't think that Roadtrek is seeking information for his own use as much as he is seeking conversation. I'll bet we all know someone who like to start conversations with a somewhat provocative statement just to get folks wound up. I've decided to more or less ignore his posts as I don't care for that sort of discussion simply for the sake of discussion.
  13. Back when gas was higher I'd simply run the card a second time.
  14. FWIW - You would also see us plug into the 50 amp receptacle without "any visible surge protection". Our unit is hard wired and so an observer would never know what we had, or didn't have. Just the way I like it...
  15. I'll bet this helped a lot. Once someone has indicated that they don't want your help (for whatever reason), leave them the heck alone. I've had situations where someone came over to offer help when I either didn't need it or simply didn't want it from them. That is just human nature. Were you going to give them some unsolicited advice on pressure regulators and surge protectors once you got them unhooked?
  16. We e-mailed our forms in on May 14th and just received notification that our DNS service was approved to continue, and also that they'd converted our residential account over to a mobile account, which is appropriate. Easy peasy...
  17. I notice that Renogy is running a Memorial Day Sale on with 20% off of all of their products. This means that their 100 Amp-Hour Lithium batteries are $720 with free shipping. Pretty good deal if you're in the market...
  18. This is a pretty simple calculation. The ratio of load transferred to the front axle matches the ratio of distances from the hitch to the rear axle and the wheelbase. That is to say that if the hitch is directly over the rear axle (a distance of 0" from the rear axle) the ratio of pin weight shifted to the front axle is (0"/164") for a 164" wheelbase vehicle. You can imagine that if a load was added halfway between the rear and front axles (82" in this case) the load would be split 50/50, or (82"/164") going to the front. In my calculations, assuming a hitch set 1" in front of the rear axle, the ratio of loaded shifted to the front axle is (1"/164") or .006. With a pin weight of 3000 pounds, the load shifted forward is 3000 x .006 = 18 pounds. At 3" forward of the rear axle, the ration becomes (3"/164") or .018. With the same pin weight, 3000 x .018 = 54 pounds. Mark
  19. We got rid of all of our bulky, big ticket items through Craigslist. I will agree that car sales tend to bring a lot of nonsense responses, but "regular" items seem to be more straightforward. Since Craigslist is local we generally went from first contact to item sold in just an hour or two.
  20. With a 164" wheelbase (probably close) moving the hitch forward 1" in front of the rear axle CL will shift 0.6% of the pin weight to the front axle. So with a 3000 pound hitch weight, the total amount transferred is 18 pounds, or 9 pounds per tire. Most hitches installed into factory pucks place the CL of hitch within an inch or two of the rear axle CL. Even at 3" forward you would only be looking at 55 total pounds, or around 28 pounds per tire.
  21. Google says .7 miles and 14 minutes, so it is based on a person walking 3 mph which is certainly not unreasonable. As always, your mileage (speed) may vary!!
  22. Well, they are: "Epic. Exceptional. The Ultimate." 'Nuff said...
  23. I recall that Ford switched from the 4R100 4-speed transmission to the 5R110W 5-speed transmission with tow/haul mode sometime around 2005. Does your motorhome have the "tow/haul" mode button on the end of the shifter stalk, or the "overdrive" button. I ask because the tow/haul mode is a huge help when descending mountain grades. So if you have it, use it for sure. If you don't have it watch your speed carefully on the descents and be ready to manually downshift to help control your speed.
  24. I think that your biggest variable would be health care. I assume that it is provided to you currently as a teacher, and perhaps your husband is on the plan as well. Do you have a means to cover that if you are not teaching?
  25. A fifth wheel hitch sitting over the rear axle should have very little effect on front tire weights. Like less than 100 pounds. To add 250 pounds to one and subtract it from the other would take a heck of a twisting moment from the hitch. If everything was sitting on level ground, as I imagine it was, I would question the validity of those weights.
