I was just discussing this topic with the DW this afternoon and her comment was that she thought she remembered someone, possibly at the ECR (?), who was saying that they did not like having a monitor system for some reason. She couldn't articulate what was said but there was some sort of down side to a having a system. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
  9. I've been spending countless hours scraping off 3M two sided tape that held on LED strips. The best results are a rubber eraser wheel, then 3M 8489 adhesive remover solvent soaked towel, then scrape some more, then repeat... The Jackalopee thread also inspired me to remount mine a little better in the driver side Jockey box. This will also allow for a second bus-bar for the additional tail light outputs for the remodeled "safety lights" on the drom and rear farings. Photos to come later... I will have to abandon this project for a little while for another major project, that's been a long time coming, that takes priority. I'll be pouring a concrete pad, 42 x 85', in a few weeks, in my pole barn where the truck and trailer live. It will be so nice, not to have to try to work on gravel any more...
  10. Continuing to work on replacing LEDs from the lightning strike... Remounted my Jackalopee and added another terminal block to allow for connecting the new set of "safety lights" on the back of the cab and drom box.
  11. I was trying to decide if I wanted the 12 $ensor set or just the 6 on the trailer. Do you have any monitor system on your truck? When I converted to 17.5s, I went with 245-70R17.5 J-rated tires that were recommended to me by a friend who runs this size on his low-boy.
  12. I was just a little concerned about fatigue cracking of the long metal valve stems with the weight of the sensor on the end. But I guess this isn't really a thing...

  15. Our first 5er was a Keystone Carbon toy hauler (The Raptor is one grade up from this). It was admittedly more of an entry level trailer. IMO the build quality was terrible. Very cheap in every aspect. It was a 2016 year and by 2021, we were constantly playing the "where did this part fall off from" game every time we set up. Our current trailer is a Grand Design Momentum toy hauler. Its quality is better by a good margin from the Keystone. It isn't what it should be but that is the nature of the industry... We like the trailer and have chosen to make it a long term relationship by investing in some upgrades: MORryde IS suspension and upgrade to 8500# (from 7500#) per axle, air over hydraulic brakes with electric backup and a rather substantial solar/lithium install. We'll never get that money back out of it, so it's ours for a while.
  16. We’ve been running our rig since 2017. We have yet to be turned away or needed to park the truck separately. Just a bit of recon with Google satellite view before you book and alls well. Our first 5er we were about 65' OAL. With the "new" trailer we are just shy of 70'.

    Tire Monitor

    Thank you, Chad. I will keep this in mind. I'm an in-depth researcher so I need to educate myself on these systems and see what I'm looking for before I jump into anything just yet. I won't be doing any traveling for a couple months yet, so I have some time.

    Tire Monitor

    Watching Dave and Karen's latest adventures made me think. I don't have a tire monitor system. I know asking this is dangerous, like asking what oil is best, but here goes: What tire monster system do you have and why do you like it? I'll need to monitor 6 tires on the trailer.
  19. Spent a couple hours taking off LED strips and cleaning off scorch marks...
  20. They're forecasting up to 2 FEET of snow for us this week, so I took the truck to my business shop today so I could do some more work to the lights. I finished the bedside chicken light repairs. Then I did some testing of the Boogey Light system. Obviously the control box is totally cooked, but the wiring to the LED strips seems okay. The system has two circuits. One circuit has lights on the farings and the sides of the cab. This is the circuit that took the lighting strike. Surprisingly some, *SOME* of the LEDs still worked. The other circuit seems to be all good, it just needs the new controller. One step closer to being back to where we were before mother nature took us to the wood shed...
  21. I only had a minimal interest in taking our rig to California to visit family. Now I have absolutely zero interest in going there. Ever.
  22. A balmy 38º F here today so I was able to do some wiring repairs. We have driver side chicken lights working again... After the lighting strike most of these LEDs don't work at all and a couple would work only on running eight or signal light...

    Locker cost

    I was quoted $8k to put one in my truck. A rebuilt center is not that expensive, but your open diff is not acceptable as a core so therefor you need to pay full price. Then plumbing and programming are more.
