"Maybe" on your HS French - but negative on your HS English usage..😕

    Morale -vs- moral:

Ex:  The *morale* of the reviewers is outstanding!...... The *moral* is, posting reviews can be lucrative.

    .

Your remark was uncalled for and unwelcome. Do you think that your being helpful? No need to answer that as I will, you’re not. I just know when I block you, I won’t have to see what you say again. Have a great life.

Love that feature, POOF, your gone. 😀🎉😀

I also get those messages and I think it's important that everyone post reviews...not only bad ones but also good ones.  If people doing their planning would explore the various review sites it would be very helpful for them.

I post factual things like cell signal strength, OTA tv channels, wifi plus any observations.

Every once in awhile Campground Reviews sends reviewers a message telling them how many views their posts have had. I just went over 10,000 and was at 99 total reviews. I then got a message saying I was being rewarded with two years free of RV Life of which of most interest to me contains RVTW. I think, but don't quote me, that it costs $49/year.

The morale is, posting reviews can be lucrative. It's a good move on their part too, Pour encourager les autres. If my HS French still works

I post them all the time now. I stoped posting them for a couple of years. But I want to contribute to help other RVers. I forget how many people have looked or thanked me for me reviews. I get an email from them about once a month. I wanted to add to a review and my submission was to long for them. But then they wrote me back and said that they will add it as I contribute a lot.

  4. Here is the big problem. Until we get the planet vaccinated it will keep mutating. And that’s when it could mutate where the current vaccines are not protecting us. Look at the new variant, more contagious and causes more damage. And none of this factors people having long term effects from Covid.
Not getting vaccinated and getting Covid and having to go to the hospital is called Karma. Every situation that this has happened, they always state that they wish that they got vaccinated. I wish people would become part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

  5. You need to look at weights and limits to see what you need. The cost difference from a 2500-3500 is minimal. Are you full timing or going on long extended trips? I researched this for a while. Number 1 rule is always have more truck then you need. As when you start pushing the limits, things break more often and you feel it while driving and get whit knuckle syndrome. Are you planning on curvy mountain roads? A DRW is so much more stable on windy roads and high winds.
People also have upgraded rigs that were heavier. Then you stuck selling a not old truck early to buy one that can do more. There is a TON of reading on this. It all goes back to rule number 1, get more truck then you need. You, your family and everyone that you drive next to will be safer. Plus you will spend less in maintenance and repair.

That sounds like a winner to me.  Cheers to you.

I have flown the twin engine Bell 212 helicopter that appeared in the movie Black Sunday.  Photos are in the  FB link.

The more options you have the better your chances. I have that OTA DVR, Apple TV and a Firestick. Between the three I can watch about everything.

I am in my mid 40's, not retired or anything and work a normal 9-5 routine..

I did full time for 2 years about 15 years ago.  I stayed at a number of CGs, got to experience the CG culture.  Some had riff-raff, some where a bit classy. Some were micromanaged to the point of absurd (no guests after 10PM - are you kidding me?), some were almost abandoned by owners. I liked the latter.

None were cheap and convenient to work, my commute at best was 45 minutes, I thought that was short when I moved from a CG that was 1.5 hours away.

Prices keep going up and up even for riff-raff ones, they now installed a pool and pretend to be 5 star. It's cheaper to rent a room all things  considered. But then you lose all privacy. Not that you have much at a CG to begin with. I had to deal with some theft, turns out CG owner's kids were stealing things from vehicles of residents.

There are no campgrounds within 1 hour  of me. Or more.  And I am in DC. I am not commuting for  2 hours every day.  No way, not with the price of gas. The ones that are available are at least $1000/month. Makes no sense if you try to be frugal, given all expenses of RV+CG fees it's cheaper to rent an apartment as exorbitant as they are in price.

2 years of CG left me with a sense of frustration. Nothing has changed for the better, except that now you have to book  6 months ahead. No thank you.

I am going to full time again but never again staying at a CG. I did notice one thing though. In the west, CG are a different animal, cheaper, easier to find, there are more of them, the attitude and the culture is different than on the east coast.   Looking for a nice CG in DC area is like looking for a museum in rural Montana.

There are not many CGs around the DC area. Land is expensive and traffic is horrible. You could be 15 miles to your place of work and it would take you an hour to get there. If you can find an apartment  to rent for under $1000 a month it is going to be in a very sketchy neighborhood. I know this as I spent the first 46 years of my life around DC. Just like finding a CG around San Francisco, land is stupid $$$$ and there are not many CGs there.

How do you watch TV?  Recently a satellite serviceman said satellite TV will be phased out, everything will be streamed.

This is what I understand so far:

    1. You need an internet connection and then a device on your TV ie ROKU or Firestick or??
    2. Then you need and APP ie Paramount+, Hulu, Netflix
    3. You can't record like a DVR but can watch most anything on their menu at any time
    4. You can pay for an upgraded service to have fewer commercials

Any tips or tricks, recommended apps or hardware appreciated...

I have Channel Masters OTA DVR with a one TB external hard drive.

And no one, no one, said electric 18-wheelers will be running down the highway and climbing the Rockies in the next few years.   BUT things will change.  Many of us will not live to see the changes, but they are coming.  Organisms that do not adapt and change eventually die out.

I think it is going to happen faster then you think. 5-10 years you more the. Likely will not be able to buy a combustion engine car and pick-up. Might be 15 for semi’s.

That was a mistake on my part. We didn't do that road with the RV but with our towed. With the motorhome we followed US101 to Santa Rosa, not Redding. I guess my memory got ahead of my map!  It was also 20+ years ago that we took 299.

    Sorry for the mental slip!

No problem, just wanted to get clarification.

We have traveled that route from Sequim, WA through Forks, WA and Crescent City, CA to Eureka,  and inland to Redding and from there on to SF. It is not a high speed route but is one of the most scenic routes in the country. At no point does that route pass through Napa or the Napa Valley. I have been through the Napa Valley several times and to my knowledge never encountered any drunk drivers, and while it has been quite some time since I was there, the only reason that I can think of for such advice is possibly because it is wine country. Unless you plan a side trip about 50 miles out of your planned line of travel, you will not be in the Napa Valley at all.

So you took 299 inland? It looks pretty windy.

  12. I was thinking of taking 101 North from San Francisco to Washington state. I have a 40’ 5ver. I have never been on this section of road. What are your thoughts and experiences? I’ve heard I should be really careful through Napa Valley as there are a lot of drunk people on the road.

I didn't say no difference. Yes, it helps. My roof insulated well for an rv. But even it seems cooler. Also with the 2 12k mini splits, cooling is a non issue.

To me the measurable difference is the temp on the inside.

base- just like it is before painting the roof inside temp.

varient- after the roof is painted Is there an inside temp difference?

insulation is not a factor to determine the difference the product made. You also need to have about the same ambient temps and same sun light exposure.

Thanks for all of the information, but I think I will save my money and time at this point.

I believe that pretty much all of California is like San Diego county, although it does vary how much. The most I have ever paid for an RV site was $76/night a bit north of Santa Cruz to visit Pam's brother about 10 years ago. Because she has family in Redlands we go there every couple of years and either stay at Yucaipa Regional Park($35/night) or if full we go to Mission RV Park($43/night). With the regional park which we prefer, we usually reserve at least 6 months ahead to get a spot. Even Jojoba Hills is not up to $35/night or $199/week. I doubt that there are any RV sites in the more settled parts of CA that most of us would not consider to be over priced.

At Jojoba Hills you need to be up on the waiting list and then pay up the funds for your share in the park, as you do not own the land. And there monthly’s are very reasonable. Out side of owning, I think they just raised the limit of your stay as a guest from 2 weeks a year to 30 days a year a couple of years ago.

Yep Ryno, that is why I brought it up. We also stayed at Park Sierra but that is way too far north. We had to stay in San Diego every year because my mom had Alzheimer's, as I said, and died a few years after we started full timing. It was just a two week to a month stop on the way to Oregon and the Washington peninsula, and Canada/Alaska in 99, and usually a stop on the way back. Once mom was gone we took the much better 90 and 40 back to our winter Louisiana quarters. We both hated I-20 from El Paso to Bossier City LA.

That SD area is just outrageous in price and restrictions.

I’m at Park Sierra right now. 😀

Anyone else know of a reasonable park near SD with storage? Or reasonable land there even for California?

It is CRAZY around San Diego. The park just up the street from jojoba Hills has a few people that Store there rig there. They said it is about the same price as buying a lot, paying the monthly dues and the rig is powered all the time.

  17. 2 minutes ago, RV_ said:

Rynosback I totally agree. I bought my Transfer Flow diesel tank with the switches pumps and indicator panel there for $150.00 and it worked perfectly. They were having their annual park-wide garage sale or whatever they called it.

The people at Jojoba were great and their lots when available to rent are first class. It is not close to SD but might be better than along I 8. Today I have no clue.

    Hope that helps.

Helps? I have stayed there about 4 months over the past couple of years. Yes the sale is HUGE there.

Yes. It's cool to the touch. However much insulation you have in your roof will determine how much cooling it does. Well insulated roof be little difference.

Thanks. So there is no difference in the inside temp, just the feel of it on the outside. I will just keep cleaning and 403ing my roof then. My hopes were it would shield the rig from more heat as silicone does not transfer the temp as much. Thanks for the experiment and feedback. I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger. You saved me money and time.
