  1. Kirk I believe it's signatories to the Visa Waiver Treaty. I haven't travelled for sometime so I'm more than likely out of date. Under the VWT you can enter the USA without a visa for up to 90 days as a tourist. Any longer then you need a visa of some kind. Driver licenses etc are recognized. However insurance isn't covered due to the differences in liability laws etc. Folks need to keep in mind that many of these laws/rules aren't black and white. The persons wearing the white gloves at the airport can ruin your day anytime the so choose. 😫
  2. True for most countries. But there are treaties between some countries that allow you to buy and also use your driving license. Australia is one of the lucky countries. I believe the UK also qualities. Just a note that may be of help. Years ago we got tired of going into Mexico or Canada. We decided to chance our luck at an immigration office. (I don't recall what its technically called). Lots of looonnnggg lines. But long story short. We were able to prove we were tourists. Had to show bank accounts with sufficient funds for our travel. Show evidence of property or such back home. In other words you had to prove you weren't working in the USA and that you had sufficient reason to return home. We were treated very politely. They stamped our passports and wished us well. Don't try to lie or quote the law to them. They have the power to say NO.
  3. A couple of comments. As far as I'm aware going in and out of Canada or Mexico is a loophole that has now been closed. Double check to see if you can still do that. ( as Australians we did it a number of times. But please check that you can still do it. Often refered to as going around the flag pole). Simply join SKPs and get an address. Simple as that. Registration, insurance etc all then falls into place. Good luck.
  4. Here in Australia diesel heaters are the latest 'trend'. The 'name' brands are in the $3 -4000.00 range. This link may be of interest to some. There are many good reports on these units here in Australia. https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=diesel air heater rv&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-188180-27959-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=102&keyword=diesel air heater rv&crlp=_&MT_ID=&geo_id=&rlsatarget=kwd-80951692638998:loc-9&adpos=&device=c&mktype=&loc=122640&poi=&abcId=&cmpgn=373883620&sitelnk=&adgroupid=1295224925350368&network=s&matchtype=p&msclkid=7200c021d81d173cc555a53945acc174
  5. I for one admire your passion RV. Just keep in mind that everyone of us are entitled to have an option. Some are even entitled to be wrong. History will show who's opinion is closest to reality.
  6. The Chinese EV mark is a con. Many videos/stories about showing fields full of new EVs parked up that have never been on the road. They simply have to register them to get government subsidies.
  7. Sorry Glenn. I should have pointed out that I was referring to this forum.
  8. No new posts since the 27th. Is it too early to organize a wake?
  9. If nothing else you need an address for registration, insurance etc etc. So join up then start looking for an RV. But I question the viability financialy for anything less than 12 months.
  10. FWIW our bus never went on power. We always dry camped/boondocked. But you need to do the maths and check your battery and solar figures. We had a large inverter and never used it. The Danfoss compressors are very efficient.
  11. I'm short on details because I'm technically challenged. 🙃 first it was a conversion done in Australia hence my 240v. Second it was done by the folks fitting out the conversion. But we/they purchased a standard residential fridge. Then removed the 240v compressor and replaced it with a Danfoss 12v compressor. It was that simple. Or so they told me. In the year we owned that bus the fridge was never turned off. We had hard ice cream even in 120f conditions. (Note there is more to keeping a fridge cold such as the correct ventilation). I suggest you do a Google on Danfoss compressors.
  12. 4 motor homes. 2 with compressor fridge. No brainer. Do whatever necessary to go compressor. We built a bus conversion with a residential fridge. BUT. But we replaced the 240/110v compressor with a 12v compressor.
  13. FWIW here in Australia RV caravans/trailers built in China carry a 5 year structural warranty. They are "forcing" local builders to follow suit. So just like imported cars it will take cheaper higher quality imports to change local builders.
  14. After all these years I still can't get my head around RV warranty. Buy a $20000.00 car and if it gets dirty the law will protect you for years. Yes I exagerate! Buy a $500000.00 RV and in 12 months you are on your own. WHY?
  15. My brain is on the road. My body is on the bed. We sold our B class 8 months ago and are currently looking at a 4x4 expedition truck and trailer. BUT my health is such that I'm currently to scared to leave home let alone put a deposit down. Once your health goes south it's realy realy hard to keep going. I admire those who can keep going.
  16. I find it hard to blame management when the very subjects/content of these forums are our, the user, responsibility. Unless WE make the forums interesting and provide a positive experience then nobody will be remotely interested in a handful of old farts bickering over trival subjects. When someone posts dont reply or contribute unless you have a constructive comment. Negativity is creeping into society from all directions. Many posts I read here don't add to the conversation nor do they encourage polite and helpful content. I know. Because I have been subjected to those who want to read between the lines, take out of context or otherwise twist posts simply to make the poster seem important. I was a director of Australias largest RV club. We had a forum which was eventually shut down because a handful of members simply couldn't resist the temptation to bicker over trivial details. WE the members are responsible for the well-being of these forums. Polite and helpful replies are what is needed. Not the pointing of fingers at those who provide the very platform that we have all taken for granted for so long. Thank you moderators and SKP for allowing me to use and learn on these forums for so many years.
  17. Kirk the forums 'must' keep going. Even if the last one here is talking to themselves it's worth the effort. Think of it as a group of old men sitting at the bar. They meet there every week. But one by one they pass away. Just because they are slowly dropping in numbers it doesn't mean their meetings are irrelevant. The last two will lament the passing of their mates. But that very meeting, despite their dropping numbers, remains important and a part of their lives. We stopped RVing the USA in 2013. (Still travelled for several months a year in a pickup until 2018). But this forum has been a part of my life for soooo long that I simply can't walk away from it. I think social interaction is a dying skill. We must continue until Escapees pull the plug and turn off the power.
  18. Keep in mind that back in the mid 1990s, when I joined, forums such as this were "hi tech" and the prime source of information. Now days folks simply Google YouTube to find information.
  19. Many forums die when folks hide behind a computer screen and shoot off at the mouth/keyboard. Its the same on most forums and social media. I recently left my favourite forum simply because I was targeted by one idiot. I'm not the only one leaving internet social sites. It's simply a part of the evolution of today's world.
  20. Went there many years ago and it was "interesting"! But my guess it's only a snap shot of many other places. Portland springs to mind.
  21. I thought I heard some rumour about Pam and Kirk moving to Australia ! 🙃
  22. He is ok. Just everyone now and again needs a break.
  23. Hygiene counts regardless of hose colour. How many times have you seen someone flushing their sewer hose out with their 'white' hose? Or put their sewer hose over the faucet to flush it out! Each of us has to be responsible for our own 'standards' and if a white hose keeps you happy then great. I object to paying a king's ransom just to get a white hose when any hose used with common sense will do the job. I grew up in the country with only tank water. What was in that tank wasn't worth thinking about. So the type of hose I use doesn't worry me.
  24. It's not the colour of the hose that is the issue. It's if water sits in the hose for an extended period. You can use a garden hose to fill a tank provided the hose is empty of old water when you start. Never travel with water in any hose. Empty them before storing them.
