  1. Where did these friends take their test? Sounds like the time required for the CDL test. Most testing places don't have the foggiest about what is required for RVs. My driving test was 20 minutes, including dodging the compressed gas cylinder that flew off of a truck as it passed me. Barb
  2. I would think it would depend upon where in Tx you lived versus where in Va you live. Lots of places in each state that you wouldn't get me to live
  3. All states tax, just they tax different things. As Kirk said no personal property tax, not to mention no state income tax. You have to look at all things to determine which state is the best for a domicile state while you fulltime.
  4. Yup. We had ours weighed and registered when we first purchased her - before we went fulltiming, so she was bareboned as could be when weighed. Barb
  5. You need to look at page 9-1: The registration fees for passenger vehicles are based upon the gross vehicle weight. Use the shipping weight shown on the manufacturer's certificate to determine the weight of new passenger vehicles, add 100 lbs., and figure the fee on the next even 100 lbs. For example, if the manufacturer's certificate of origin shows the shipping weight as 5,415 lbs., the addition of 100 lbs. would result in a total of 5,515 lbs. When rounded off to the next highest 100 lbs., use 5,600 lbs. as the registration weight. • If there is a question as to the correct weight of a particular vehicle, require the applicant to present a weight certificate from a Public Weigher. • The weight shown on a weight certificate is acceptable as the registration weight of the vehicle. Do not add any weight to the figure shown on the weight certificate, but round it off to the next highest 100 lbs. • If the weight of a vehicle is in question and the evidence of ownership for the vehicle is a manufacturer's certificate, do not lower the weight below the weight indicated without a corrected manufacturer's certificate. Don't tilt at windmills, just get it weighed. You'll need that to know if you are overweight anyway.
  6. Chirakawa You didn't see this in the manual? It will detect any of those - which is why hair spray will often set up an LP alarm. Also there will be some butane in any propane that you get. The use of the test button is a way to avoid saturating the sensors - but all that really tells you is that the test circuit is working, not whether the sensor actually picks up the vapor or not. While I wouldn't use the butane all of the time, once in a while it is not a bad idea. 25 yrs of doing EH&S work, I always calibrated my test equipment with small known samples of the particular material of concern. ------ Rich, sure sounds like either it is temperature or pollen related. If pollen related that is a terrible design - - but then I think the whole combo idea is terrible. If it were me, I'd take it back and let them know it isn't working and just replace that with a propane alarm and then add your CO alarm in the bedroom area. Barb
  7. The LP monitor will detect LP gas that has not combusted, which will sink to the floor because it is cold and heavy. CO monitor detects the product of combustion (carbon monoxide) which is lighter than air and will rise because it is a smaller molecule that either N2 or O2 and because it is hot. Just like a hot air balloon rises through cold air. Small differences, but CO detector really should be in the normal breathing area. LP monitor detects any flammable gas whether it is propane, butane, ethane, or methane. Set a paper bag on the floor with apples in it, close it up and open in a couple of days - alarm will probably go off because of the ethene the apples give off. Ethene is used to ripen green fruit as it moves across the country. Dog with upset digestive tract can set it off, as can being down wind of a feed lot! Barb
  8. You do know that my degrees are in Chemistry & Chem Engineering and that I'm married to a Ph.D. Biochemist? CO montior needs to be at a level where normal breathing occurs. CO monitor on the floor means you'll be ill or dead before it goes off.
  9. Just an aside, but CO/LP combined units out to be outlawed as the two gasses have very different properties and sensors need to be in different places. LP monitor should be just above the floor. CO monitor should be in the bedroom area at shoulder height. Barb
  10. Oh Smitty, cutting back on wine! Please say it isn't so. Barb
  11. Health insurance - I hear you. Yea, that does make a lot of difference. Barb
  12. You can get your motorhome inspected anywhere - there is no special exhaust checks for diesels. Not sure why you couldn't do a change of address online since you already have the title. That's what we did for our drivers licenses, motorhome, and car when we moved from Tyler to Livingston. Things must have changed since we moved. Barb
  13. I assume this is for the Jeep and not the motorhome since there is no air checks for diesels. If you are going to be in that area for any length of time, why not 'move' there or 'move' to Livingston?
  14. Speculators. It is all about speculators trying to figure out how to short the market, or covering previous shorts, or etc.
  15. Yes, this is a buying time. Worst thing to do would be to sell.
  16. Yes they do. This is the kind of day that scares new investors into panic selling
  17. A couple of things when you look at your budget. Often your grocery budget will go up because you will be shopping in new stores, seeing new products in different areas, which often means spending more - - but that's ok, because that is part of the adventure in traveling. On the other end, you may find that eating out goes down because you have more time to cook, or you like the grill & graze style of eating at home that the lifestyle sort of encourages. Barb
  18. Dave still has a few ties in his closet - ones our daughter gave to him and he can't bring himself to giving those away. Fathers & daughters.
  19. This thread started in August of 2011. August is almost always a month where the market takes a big drop - it gets hot in August and all the players sell, take profits and go to the seashore to cool off. Then in the fall the market rebounds, some years slowly, other years quickly. We were in then, we are still in now. Take some time, look at how allocations are, look to see whether you need to take some profits out in the year ahead and determine what conditions will be favorable to you to do it, otherwise, let the day-to-day worry be about something important, like whether or not Yu Darvish's Tommy John surgery has worked and will he be back strong next spring.
  20. Why the big range from 50-75K? All of the others were 10K range, that one is 25K.
  21. You might want to check that again. https://www.azdor.gov/About/FAQs/Individual.aspx Barb
  22. One thing to think about when deciding to take SS or pull from savings/retirement funds - - when you die the SS go away, but the savings/retirement funds can be passed on. That's one of the reasons we decided to take SS early - leaves the other funds growing until mandatory withdrawals. Barb
  23. Because as it stands now, the online registration wouldn't go through because the inspection won't be in the database. So that means he wouldn't be able to get the registration sticker. That's one of the details that they have to work out. HuntExPOW - I would suggest that you see about getting the registration date moved. You can call the county tax assessor and ask that they registration date be moved (actually I think you pay for an extended one to what the move date is) to when you've been back for 30 days of so to give yourself time to get the inspection done. You have to call and ask for the new registration date in the 90 day window BEFORE you registration is due. Barb
  24. Mark, I do agree that this is good information. Just that I've seen a lot of "it's a done deal, the committee chair is with us" optimism only to see the request (usually funding of a project) deleted by someone from another part of the state with a bigger pull in the legislature. So I take any legislative promise with a grain of salt. Barb
