Medical Insurance Pgm via Escapees

Recommended Posts

Someplace I remember reading that the Escapees have a list of medical providers. I have looked all over the Escapees site and can't find the list.

We are planning on visiting Canada and since Medicare doesn't cover us need some short term insurance. Anyone know a provider?

Thanks

We have used this broker http://www.ksagroup.net/ for several years for our health insurance as we have paid our own premiums since we hit the road full time. We were referred to Ken by a fellow Escapee. We have not used his short term products but have used his BCBS and fortunately signed up for it before ACA so are one of the few grandfathered in till Medicare.

As a broker he can compare several products for you, he is not obligated to just one.

We purchased out of US coverage when we spent a month in Australia, but since we never used it, I can't recommend them. Just about any insurance agency would have such coverage available so look at the commercial member listings.

One other thing to check, in reviewing our Medicare supplement, we recently discovered that it shows foreign travel as a covered item, so we need to look into that as we may have wasted our money!

I have no idea what you are talking about? I looked on the Medicare site and don't see any "F" option. I have Medicare, A and B + my companies retiree plan. Medicare D is for drug coverage but we don't need that. Where is this plan on the site?

It is part of the Medigap or Medicare Supplemental Coverage and listed under "Foreign travel exchange (up to plan limits)"

This website https://www.medicare.gov/supplement-other-insurance/compare-medigap/compare-medigap.html

explains how to compare the standard supplemental coverages (A,B,C,D,F,G,K,L,M,N) available and has a chart of highlights:

The plan F is in the Medicare supplement section. It isn't a part of Medicare as are Part A, Part B, & Part D, but a type of supplement. It is what we have although are considering a change to a plan G.

Here is some additional travel coverage info that may be of interest. Note the $50,000 life time limit.

Your Medigap policy may offer additional coverage for health care services or supplies that you get outside the U.S.

Standard Medigap Plans C, D, F, G, M, and N provide foreign travel emergency health care coverage when you travel outside the U.S.

Plans E, H, I, and J are no longer for sale, but if you bought one before June 1, 2010 you may keep it. All of these plans also provide foreign travel emergency health care coverage when you travel outside the U.S.

Medigap coverage outside the U.S.

Medigap Plans C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, M, and N pay 80% of the billed charges for certain medically necessary emergency care outside the U.S. after you meet a $250 deductible for the year. These Medigap policies cover foreign travel emergency care if it begins during the first 60 days of your trip, and if Medicare doesn't otherwise cover the care.

Foreign travel emergency coverage with Medigap policies has a lifetime limit of $50,000.

Find out before you go

Before you travel outside the U.S., talk with your Medigap plan or insurance agent to get more information about your Medigap coverage while traveling
