Brad NSW
Deck will be 10' x 8’-3” wide. First picture shows 4”x 8” beams attached to the rails, using six LONG U-bolts on each frame rail. Beams go 3 coats of used diesel oil. Next the 8ft cross beams (4”x6”) got their preservation coats. 6" side will be up. They got 3 coats of diesel oil on sides and bottom. Tops got 4 coats of WATCO Danish wood oil in Dark Walnut. Next 6” x 3/8" galvanized lag bolts attached the beams to the longitudinal beam. 70 percent complete. I will put two 10' 2x6" fascia boards to tie the ends together. Then I'll screw in a 2 x 10' steel L beam underneath to add more longitudinal strength and help distribute point loads through the deck. Finally I'll attach some nice tie-down D-rings, flush with the deck to hold the Smart Car. 2010 Freightliner, DD15 Eaton Ultrashift, 2015 New Horizons 5th Wheel. alan0043
Hi Brad, Thank you for posting your pictures and writing up of what you did. You built one hell of on deck. That deck could hold a bulldozer if needed. Keep up the good work and please keep posting more pictures, Al 2012 Volvo VNL 630 w/ I-Shift; D13 engine; " Veeger " Redwood, model 3401R ; 5th Wheel Trailer, " Dead Wood " 2006 Smart Car " Killer Frog "
