Not A Clue Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 We are currently in Cortez, Co. and need to be in West Yellowstone the end of May. No other time frame. We would like to see the Flaming Gorge area in Utah. What about taking the 191 all the way up to West Yellowstone? Has anyone ever taken the hwy? Or cut west and take hwy 89 north. We have already been to Page and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion. But have not been North of that on the 89. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA. Yes, a few times. It is mostly two lane. There are relatively steep climbs and descents around Flaming Gorge, a 9,000' pass between Price and Vernal and a steep Climb out of Vernal. Consult the Mountain Directory for details. There is a lot to see and do along this route. Monument Valley, Bluff, Blanding Area: Monument Valley UT-261 the Moki Dugway Goosenecks State Park Hovenweep National Monument Natural Bridges National Monument Bluff Fort South Fork of Mule Canyon and House on Fire The Valley of The Gods Sand Island Petroglyphs Edge of the Cedars State Park Dinosaur Museum Moab/Monticello area: Kane Creek Road Potash Lower Colorado Byway Upper Colorado River UT-128 Scenic Byway Sago Canyon Dead Horse Point State Park Arches National Park Canyonlands National Park Needles District Newspaper Rock Vernal Area: Utah Field House State Park Dinosaur National Monument US-191 from I-80 (Rock Springs) is in my opinion a good route and takes you through the Tetons and in the South Entrance to Yellowstone if it will be open when you need to get there. There is a Walmart in Rock Springs where you can stock up if you need supplies.
