SWharton Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 My question is if this seems like a good deal to those in the know. I haven't found anything better. I am in the market for a new phone and decided I would go all out for the latest and greatest. I am looking for a Samsung Galaxy S7, US model, unlocked. The best price I could find is at Best Buy, $669 with 10% off using their card and 12 months to pay. I want an unlocked model so I don't have bloatware on it. I just will need to get a Cricket SIM and be on my way. I won't buy from Ebay or Craigs, too pricey of an item and not enough price differential and have been unable to locate anything better. Thanks
dartmouth01 Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Sounds about right. If you arent in a rush, set an alert on slickdeals.net and you might find something better soon. Also search the archives to find the all time low. Just a couple days ago I went with VZ ones but with Costco you get $225 back with new lines. Kinda wish I had gotten unlocked ones to start, because we now have 2 TMo S7's that i need to sell (moved to VZ to get ready for fulltiming!)
SWharton Posted October 13, 2016 Author Report Posted October 13, 2016 Thanks for the website, sounds neat. I am in no rush but if I see a good deal I will jump on it.
dartmouth01 Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 It is my go to site right now, but I'm becoming less enchanted with it as it becomes more commercial. Just a year ago, it was just about crowdsourcing deals. Now, they are promoting posts, and blocking some posts if it infringes on their ability to make money (referrals, etc). I understand why, but thats why I'm on the lookout for a new resource that doesn't filter or promote like they do. I love my Galaxy S7 Edge. I personally think it is the best all around phone out there, even after the release of the iPhone 7. Though now, everyone asks if it will burn up (Its not a NOTE 7 dammit!) :-)
AquaDawg Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 I just checked the Samsung website, it looks like you can buy the unlocked model for $669, and it appears to be the regular price. Keep in mind that Samsung just recalled all 2.5 million S7 Note phones and they are going to scrap the entire lot. That means millions of people will be looking for either the S7 or the S7 Edge as replacements.http://www.samsung.com/us/explore/galaxy-s7-features-and-specs/
SWharton Posted October 13, 2016 Author Report Posted October 13, 2016 It was the 10% off from Best Buy that is enticing, plus 12 months interest free.
SWharton Posted October 23, 2016 Author Report Posted October 23, 2016 I ordered the Samsung from Best Buy and will pick it up next week. I have never bought a cell phone from a full serve store. They offer to move my data for free. I question the word data. Does that mean all my apps? In the past I just had to reload everything from the Play store and send all my data up to the cloud and then bring it back on the new phone. I still am not sure I want to risk their doing this but need to know what they are really offering versus what they say. Thanks.

Last time I changed phones, all my apps were automatically downloaded to the new phone. I was going from an Android to an Android. Of course, if you go from an iPhone to an Android, apps won't be downloaded. One word of warning. If you allow Best Buy to make this phone to phone migration for you, make sure they are doing it on their store wifi so they're not using up all your data allowance. SWharton Posted October 23, 2016 Author Report Posted October 23, 2016 I am going Android to Android, last time it was Iphone to Android. Since the apps will automatically download(didn't know this) I don't see BB of being of any benefit to me since I don't keep much on my cell phone. Probably the biggest data is the maps for CoPilot and a few pictures. I prefer doing it myself anyway.
dartmouth01 Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 Samsung has Smart Switch, which is a direct phone to phone transfer "app". The phone comes with a special Smart Switch cable that allows you to connect the two phones together and the phones are exact clones after the copy (not sure how exactly that will work with an iphone though). There is also an option to do the transfer wirelessly, i think a wifi connectiom is made directly between the two. Additionally, there is a Smart Switch program for Macs and PCs so you can make a backup of your phone on your computer, among other things. I have tried it and can report success, just migrated 2 Tmo S7 Edges to 2 VZ S7 Edges using it. I am going to guess that the Best Buy store will do the same, but you can opt to do it yourself, the instructions wil pop up the first time you turn on the phone, but you can always access Smart Switch later in Settings.
SWharton Posted October 23, 2016 Author Report Posted October 23, 2016 That's good to know. I am going Samsung to Samsung so I will try their system. Thanks for the info.
