s106300
We have a 2016 DRV 38RSSA Elite Suites and have currently been parked in an RV park for about 6 weeks in Ishpeming, Mi (about 14 miles west of Marquette). Yesterday we had to move our rig from one spot to another; shortly after getting parked and leveled a major thunderstorm (with tornado warning) hit and lasted about a two hours. Within an hour after that we literally had a swarm of mosquitos (at least 50) INSIDE the coach, with no obvious point of entry. We were swatting all night. This morning I have "only" smacked about six. Any thoughts on how they may have gotten in? This has not happened before; we went full-timing March 26, 2016. SuiteSuccess
Check around bottom of bedroom slide. I had to split a foam "pool noodle" and shove under there because that was our entry point. We have an older DRV.
Pat & Pete
You are in the heart of mosquito and black fly country . How many times did you go in and out of the RV while moving and setting up ? The can fly in or come in on your clothes or maybe they found a 'secret' entrance .
2gypsies
We were locked into our RV one July 4 weekend in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with the hoards of mosquitoes on the outside wanting to get in. We were also dry camping so had the outside door open for air. The screen door was literally packed with mosquitoes. Every time we 'had' to go outside many worked their way inside just by us opening the screen door. If you had mosquitoes on your screen door and then closed the outside door, they could have gotten in through the screen door handle opening when the outside door was closed - if your screen door was like ours. This even happens with flies. Night bugs - the same. We always made sure the screen door had no bugs on it before closing the outside door. That worked for us. We heard horror stories about mosquitoes in Alaska. They were absolutely nothing compared to the U.P. of Michigan.
chirakawa
Not saying this happened in your case, but I've seen lot's of folks leave outside compartment doors open to the basement. Many fifth wheel travel trailers circulate furnace air between the basement and living area so that they are a common space. Anything gets in the basement can get into the living area through the return air.
j2catfish
We heard horror stories about mosquitoes in Alaska. They were absolutely nothing compared to the U.P. of Michigan. If you go to the Yukon, Do Not Stop at a place called "Mosquito Creek". I never found where they were coming in but the next morning the bed looked like a big knife fight had taken place the next morning. Good luck in your hunt for the mosquito entrance! LFDR3116
If you have a door or window open, maybe spray the screen with DEET. When parked in a spot for awhile, spray your site with something like Home Defense before setting up. That helps too. Safe for pets once it's dried. s106300
Thanks for the replies - there were no hordes of mosquitos hovering around and I am very careful to keep our screen handle door closed; typically not in and out a lot when setting up camp. Basement door theory is interesting but have never seen mosquitos flying around in the basement even after door has been standing open for a while. Since that night we have had a couple but nothing like that initial swarm.
