NJTroy
I know, heresy, but we've had a unexpected, but good news change in our domicile plans and I need to rethink a few things. We have an opportunity for DH to transfer to the Austin area for the remainder of his career. We would probably be there with him working and us living in our RV for a year or less starting roughly Jan, 2017. We are both under 65 and need to have insurance that covers us nationwide for a number of years. We have an alternative through a former employer of DH, but they are on their third buyout and we don't know how long it will continue. And it's very very expensive. We know there are still on exchange PPO plans available in the Austin area and that it's anyone's guess whether they will continue beyond this year. With that background, we would prefer to be domiciled in the Austin area. This means that the Escapees mail service is off the table. Does anyone have experience with a mailing service in Travis County that they could recommend? Suggestions?
AFchap
I don't understand why Escapees mail service would be "of the table." We enrolled in April 2005 while we still lived in VA and started transitioning our mail to that address. I retired in October 2005 and we left VA. In February 2006 we visited Escapees HQ South of Livingston to have vehicles inspected, etc. We have not been back to Livingston since. In 2012 we moved into a stick house a couple of hundred miles North of Livingston. We still RV almost half the time, and still use the mail service when we travel. The Escapees mail service would work very well for you, whether or not you wish to establish that address as your legal domicile. Paul (KE5LXU), former fulltimer, now sometimer... NJTroy
The issue with domicile in Livingston is that there are NO nationwide PPO plans. And we do not have confidence that my DH's insurance will continue to cover us long enough to reach Medicare age. We need a healthcare backup plan. Barbaraok
If you are going to be stationary for a couple of years, see if the RV Park will let you use their address for domicile and open a PO Box to receive mail, some may even let you have mail delivered to the park if you are on an annual lease. Then when you retire and decide to travel it is a simple change of address, done online, for everything to a Livingstone address. sandsys
I like http://www.robertsresorts.com/resorts/oak-forest-rvpark/. If my memory serves me correctly they have resident mailboxes in the main building. I never stayed more than a week at a time but I was comfortable there. Simply using the mail service does NOT make Livingston your domicile. You domicile can be in Austin or anywhere else you choose to legally establish and maintain it. Not Quite Yet
I like http://www.robertsresorts.com/resorts/oak-forest-rvpark/. Linda Sand I am a current resident here now and we do have mail service. Your address is your RV site. We have pool and hot tub but the bad is that there is a pretty long waiting list for long term sites.
SWharton
I believe UPS stores offer mail boxes also. I am not sure if they will forward mail. You will need to check.
GreyDawg
Many of the private mailbox companies (eg, PakMail) offer forwarding services -- for a hefty fee in addition to the box rental. For example, I rent a small box at a PakMail in central Austin for about $160/year, before adding forwarding services. You mentioned that there are on-exchange PPOs in Austin. If you are referring to the Scot & White PPO, be careful: the network is absolutely TINY -- it's not nationwide coverage. Have you found another on-exchange PPO? In the end, to get a PPO with nationwide coverage and out-of-pocket stop-loss in Travis County, I went off exchange to Humana. Pricey....
