Microsoft Sells U.S. Defense Dept. on Windows 10 Security

Recommended Posts

I was surprised at this as DOD was always slooooow to uptake new versions of windows until midway through the cycle.

"Microsoft MSFT +2.60% Windows 10 apparently is secure enough for the U.S. Department of Defense. The agency has committed to upgrading 4 million devices to the seven-month-old operating system, Microsoft announced.

The rollout is the biggest Windows 10 installation to date. Just last month, the Redmond, Wash., software giant tallied 200 million monthly active devices running Windows 10, registering faster growth than any previous Windows version.

“From laptops to desktops to mobile devices, including Surface devices, the DoD is targeting its Windows 10 upgrade for completion in a year, an unprecedented move for a customer with the size and complexity of the DoD,” wrote Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, in a blog post on Wednesday."
