12V Cargo Heater

I have a 2002 Monaco Windsor and in my water bay I have a Cargo Heat 3000RV that isn't working. I have removed the unit and tried adding power to it and it just doesn't come on. Where can I get a similar replacement? The wiring attached to it has a thermo-disc thermostat so it only turns on a t a certain temp. It looks like that company is out of business so not sure what to replace with. I also noticed that don't seem to be any heat ducts blowing warm air into my storage bays. Is this correct? I cant believe that at least one duct wouldn't blow warm air down there? thanks much!

I did some searching on Google and didn't find anything useful. It sounds as though you either have a failed thermostat or an open heating element. If you have a meter you should be able to find which fairly easily. If you measure on ohms across the disc thermostat, you can see if it is open or closed as it will read 0 ohms or close to that if it is closed and if it should read much more than 10 ohms it is probably bad. You can also measure ohms through the heating element and expect to find somewhere around 30 ohms or less but at least 10 ohms if the heater is good. Is this a pad heater or one that blows warm air? You could also apply power to it and by measuring voltage, trace through the circuit to see where it is lost.

If the thermostat has failed, and parts are unavailable, you could remove it from the cord and use an external thermostat made for a kerosene heater.

Thanks for the responses guys. It is a small heater that blows air. I have checked the thermostat and it works fine, so it must be someplace in the heater that the power is lost. I will have to check it out and see if I can find where the circuit is lost. I may just replace it with a small 120V ceramic heater and then run my generator while I travel until I get out of the freezing temps. This way I wont use LP to keep my refridge and water heater going and I can run my furnace while traveling as well. From what I've read, many folks run their gensets while they travel all the time. Thanks again!

Hello - I have a 2002 Windsor 40PKD. It has the cargo heater that you describe in the wet bay. In addition, it has a round furnace duct in the ceiling on the curb side just above the tanks. It only works with the SF42 furnace and you have to close the vent in the bathroom to force warm air to go down to the basement.
