Jack stands for fifth wheel

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Once again I'm turning to the experts!

Our fifth wheel weighs 15500 pounds. We have had a few flat tires. My husband has used wooden blocks to support the rv. He wants to get some jack stands to replace the blocks.

When it's jacked up the tongue is supported with the truck, the other wheels are on the ground.

So is are 6 ton jack stands good enough?

Thanks in advance!

Are they shop quality jack stands, or did they come from Harbor Freight? Are you going to use one on each side behind the wheels or two on each side, one behind the wheels and one in front?

Even though 6 tons is an adequate rating, I wouldn't crawl up underneath with just one Harbor Freight stand behind the wheels on each side. It would probably be okay, but I've seen what happens when it fails.

If you're just changing a tire and using the jack stand as a backup to the jack, you're probably okay.
