  2. The term "RV resort" is used loosely and primary IMO to raise the rates. We lived in a RV campground that became a RV resort without changing anything except the rates. We have stayed in many RV resorts that are just plain old RV campgrounds. The term RV resort is a just good marketing . We have lived since 2012 and now purchased a property there at " Deercreek RV and Golf Resort " in Davenport Florida which is actually a HOA RV community that is you purchase and own your own property like any other property or HOA. We leased there from 2012 to 2019 to make sure the HOA would serve our needs in all respects. RV life changes as time goes on and one should be always looking down the road.
  3. 14 years ago we began what we thought would be a full time lifestyle. We did not sell our S&B and most all of our possessions. We headed out the first year to see what would happen. We both took notes. We were gone for a long time. Short story we both realized that we could do what we were doing and still have our S&B. The determining factor was of course financial. We have been until last year when health issues took their toll out for @ 9 months of the year pretty much 6 months were it was warm and 6 months at our S&B but most of the time on Road trips. We now have purchased a lot in Florida and we have not yet decided what our new adventure will be. My suggestion would be to take it easy make no snap decisions. We are slowing down but we have a paid for S&B to return to and a residence in Florida.
  4. I tried bingo at a campground we were staying in and I was with a bunch old ladies watching like 15 cards each yelling at me that I was to slow in watching the two I had. That was enough for me. There are many, many good restaurants here on the 192 strip in Kissimmee and it is actually cheaper in most cases for the two of us to eat out. We do not do buffet except for Chinese restaurants and there are many good ones here. It is only natural that younger people do more active things most of the RV resorts in Florida are 55 and over retirement communities and 55 is a youngster. Heck I have a belt that is 55 years old. The most active activity is Golf and our Community is built around a 18 hole Golf course. Your perspective on life changes as you get older.
  5. You don't see many 82 year olds in exercise rooms. Years ago we rode a bike on a regular basses . Years ago we walked or ran on a regular basis . We can't do that anymore. 4 years ago we pulled all our Rv wheels checked the brakes, greased, etc them we had knee surgery. We can't do that anymore.Years ago we belonged to a exercise club . We don't do that anymore. My MD tells me I am in good shape for a man of my age and my reply is right as most men my age are dead. I do like the eating events and we still can do that. Time takes its toll.
  6. Remember the signs around the country that tell us to turn off our propane tanks when going through a tunnel. They tell us to turn them off not to remove them. Why do they tell us to turn them off ??? Why do some recommend that we turn off propane tanks when fueling or turn them off when travelling??? We saw a RV fire at our Winter campground a few years ago the RV was completely destroyed but the full propane tanks were not affected.??? What is the actual reason for no locks on the propane doors??? We note that the huge propane tanks at Flying J and the Campground we wintered it were bolted to the ground you know like chained to the RV frame. https://www.propane101.com/explodingpropanetanks.htm Hint NFPA 1192
  7. We are in no hurry to get anywhere feel free to pass us at anytime on any grade.
  8. We worked for the Government (FAA) in a highly technical job so the mental stimulation was something I was glad to leave behind when we retired. We also traveled the country in the job and had been to most of the USA in my travels. Wife and I have always been involved in our community however since we are not in our community very much anymore the only involvement we have is with the Lions organization. Being retired and On the road is a entirely different lifestyle and you are active and involved in different ways. Time means little. We do not own a watch. . We do what we choose to do when we choose to do it. Yes Rving encourages new horizons and new adventures and we have had 14 years of new adventures. We get out of bed when we choose to after having a alarm telling us when we had to.Yes the view is ever changing there were times when we had no idea were we were going other than let's head west, or south.Wife looked at the weather radar once when we were traveling west noted a big line of bad weather in our path and said...take the next left to Albuquerque another time I asked where are we spending the night... she replied how about devils towers..where is that said I.. it is that big hump on the horizon off to your right said she. We spent 5 days there and yes we walked completely around it. Kirks idea of goal setting like visiting all the national parks is a good one we once decided we were going cave /cavern hunting and spent a very long time traveling around to different caves and caverns all over the country. It was a great experience but we do not care if we ever see another cave or cavern. Did you know New Mexico has a Dormant cinder cone Volcano. Actually New Mexico has many dormant volcanoes. Capulin national monument in Capulin New Mexico.Who knew so we headed that way spent a few days in the area and yes we did hike around the cone.Spent a few days with the outline of a Volcano in our rear window.
  9. We had a two inch hitch on the back of our 5th wheels. We had a couple of not real expensive mountain bikes that we carried around for years lashed them down securely and never had a problem. In our younger days we were bike riders but not avid. We had a swagman bike rack very similar to the one pictured on a post above. IMO bike riding is great all around exercise.
  10. Well I am 82 when we started this Adventure 14 years ago I was 68 big difference between 68 and 82.We have been Rving for 30 years and tenting and backpacking before that so we have done it all.We are in very good health as is Helen but time takes its toll. Many of you may not understand that but you will. We no longer bike. We no longer take long hikes. We like to eat out and do often. We finally purchased a permanent lot in Florida as our Rving Days are drawing to a close and perhaps a single wide is in the near future but we will not do Ohio winters till we can no longer travel at all. We have a club car golf cart at our Complex in Florida as it is a very large complex but we do walk Helen Golfs . We have Rv'ed the lower 48.Have not been everywhere but did over 130K miles.Everything has a beginning and a end. We are nearing the end of a great adventure. We all will in time.
  11. We began this Rv adventure 14 years ago and two trucks two 5th wheels and over 130K miles we are still on the road. We are 14 years older my knees hurt, my eyesight is worse, my hearing is worse. We are slowing down. We are in comparatively good health but not the same as we were 14 years ago.IMO the RV lifestyle is less stressful than our job was so in that respect we are healthier. . We no longer hike, bike, climb, run boat belong to a health club. We did all those things in years past but we still got old eyesight and hearing deteriorated knees went bad. Mother nature takes its toll and we can not win.
  12. As you know they are not Extended warranties but service contracts with the conditions of use and what is covered clearly stated. We have had them on both our 5th wheels since we started long timing and high end travel since 2006. We did not have them on our 4 previous travel trailers none of which were as pricey as these 5th wheels and we were weekend low end users. We also have the Ford ESP on our Tow vehicle. We see them as a insurance policy like any other insurance policy. We have them pay the premiums and hope we never use them. We have used the plans since 2006 on both our 5th wheels and the Ford ESP twice on our tow vehicle, I do not know if we "got our money back" we have not got our money back on any insurance policy ' We see it as paying an affordable premium to protect against a large perhaps unaffordable incident.
  13. I agree with Barbarok If noise bothers you, RVing isn't for you. You are not far away from anything when in the RV. Furnace, A/C,ETC.They are not as well insulated as a S&B.Campground lots are not known for the size. The lot in our Winter HOA is 40 X 70 the neighbors are nearby our S&B lot is 80X330. We have a 40 foot 4 slide 5th wheel.I do not know what the inside dimensions are but Helen and I are rarely out of one anothers sight in our 2100 sq foot 5 bedroom tri level I may not see her for hours and we can not hear anything that is going on outside. In the RV we know when the A/C comes on as we are just a few feet from it Here in the S&B we have central and it is two levels below me I do not know if it is running or not.We transition easily between the 5th wheel and our S &B. I like others would recommend since you have a noise sensitivity that you try out the experience before you jump in. This is s great lifestyle although not for everyone.Try it I think you will like it.
  14. So many experts here that is a good thing all of this expert advice has us completely confused so we have decided to disregard all the expertise and continue to do what we have been doing for 30 plus years.Whatever we are doing has worked for us and our tanks. There are times when to much information is ..well... to much information.
  15. Stinking facts again.
  16. Perhaps the fact that we do not store our RV as it is in constant use has something do with not having water problems. It is now on our property 50 amps full hookups . We have been flushing all our tanks for the last couple of weeks For the gray, galley and black tanks we just use dawn dish soap fill the tanks let them sit for 3 days then dump.We are on the third fill and dump and everything looks clean. It has always worked for us. We of course dump and flush on a regular basis when out for the winter. We just drain the fresh water tank which we do on a regular basis and give it a good look and smell. We are never in real hot weather for extended periods as our travel goal was to stay out of real hot or real cold weather.
  17. We will not recommend anything however we have been using Progressive for all our insurance needs for a long time and have been satisfied with their rates and service. We have had the Extended service plan for both our 5th wheels since 2006. We use cornerstone. We have used the plan more than once and are please with the service.
  18. Well we learned something and anytime you learn something it is a good day. I guess we'll just keep on doing what we have been doing for the last 30 years or so in terms of RV'ing and fresh water. We have not come down with a plague of any kind......yet. We now understand what a TDS meter does and what it is good for.
  19. We are not true full timers since we have a domicile in Ohio and a residence in Florida so we do not face the issues full timers have with insurance . We have been using progressive for all our insurance needs for years with not a problem
  20. We also do not use the onboard fresh water tank for drinking water. Helen has a onboard filtration system that she uses for cooking, coffee, etc.We rarely carry more than 1/3 tank of water in the tank and it is used for flushing when in travel. We are 98% of the time on a full hookup site . We do have a filtration system from the water filter guy that we use on extended stays and the main purpose is to eliminate taste and smell. We dId not understand the TDS metering but we do now.
  21. We use a system from the water filter guy.
  22. Well i guess the TDS meter works for what it was intended to ,measure which is not water purity. We got to find a better meter
  23. Why would a company knowingly sell a device that does not work.We are going to g ive them a call and ask why they sell a worthless device.
  24. Well we found it and it is a intellitec digital water purity meter and it is a TDS meter so I guess I will have to throw it in the trash as it is useless. The water we use is usually city water from a city we are nearby . It is apparently a miracle we have not contacted some horrible disease using this worthless meter over the years . We have used the meter when we know we are using well water and never found anything out of the ordinary but then again we were using a worthless meter....who knew. Thanks for the information it is good to have experts on the subject.
