As an OTR owner operator for thirty plus years while also raising a family, I can tell you it's a rewarding and interesting career -- but it's certainly not for everyone. You absolutely have to have the personality and spouse for it. You can try it on for size and see if it works for you. That's really the only way you can know for certain. Good luck! Jay
P.S. BTW, in regards to the young unattached man comment, I'm over 70 and still working flatbed freight. Also, my late wife and I were married for forty years. It's all in your goals and motivations.
And that's why I said, "OR".
God Bless, you're part of the few, the lucky, the very brave.

Since you specifically asked about OTR, I will tell you it's primarily a young, unattached man's game, OR you have a marriage that can sustain itself perfectly well while you're separated from your spouse/kids for weeks on end. It doesn't have to be that way with local and regional jobs available.

I knew @rickeieiowould have a food recommendation.

They're worth the wait.
Our son just ordered a truck camper with an estimated delivery date in March.

Bolsters and lumbar features, IMHO, are fairly similar across brands. Additionally, they don't take the brunt of your rump as does the seat. I'd look for seat comfort first and foremost and go from there.
-
I was very happy with product selection, price, and customer service. I would recommend going to a few dealers and sitting in one before buying. It's amazing how different seats feel to the rump.

Shouldn't your cut-in and cut-out range already be programmed into your ECM?

Cats that chased the rats and then stole their pine cones?

My grand dotters market excess barn cat kittens over in our university cities with ads stating "good mousing genetics". 50 bucks each.
I'm warming up to the idea.

Rick...please, no snakes. I'll buy a new RV before that happens.
-
Kirk, does that work for mice as well?
-
Haha...we're seriously debating whether or not we should add a mouser or two to our family.

I really, really wish we could stay on topic and not muck up the thread. 😉🙂

Tom, (aka spindrift),
turn on a radio inside the coach. Mice have great hearing to hear predators, like cats and snakes slithering. They hate noise that masks that sound. The mice will leave. Unless you play country western.. These are Texas mice.
Credit to Randy Agee, RandyA on the HDT side for this tip.
With my luck, I'd play country and they'd invite me to a square dance so you make an excellent point!

Texas mice have 10-15 litters per year...

Then in that case most of us would consider them Rats since "everything is bigger in Texas".
Much cuter than rats...

I wasn't aware of that point.

Folks, don't forget, these are Texas mice.

I appreciate the replies. You'd be surprised how many TopKat blocks I've put out that always get eaten; both inside the RV and outside around the wheel wells. It looks like I won't be able to endorse the product.
-
I've got to get them out first.
-
Many, many ideas on how to prevent mouse entry. Unfortunately, they've taken over and even TomKat poison can't get rid of them.
Any ideas?

If you're only showing a little tin in an engine with almost 900K, you're doing dang well. I perform OAs on a regular basis for my commercial truck. I use Blackstone.
-
Call Ranch Hand, or similar manufacturer. Ask them how they do it.
-
Can you be more specific in describing exactly what's happening while the key is in the start position? Engine cranking? At what speed? No crank? It doesn't take a lot of sitting for one or more batteries to take a dump.

For tensioner, pulling, alternators that have multiple manufacturors, you might find it best to hit FleetPride. They've always done ok by me. I then go to dealer.
Any OTR Truckers on the forum?

@Vegas Teacher I recommend that you join the Truckers Report Forum. Equal to Escapees in regard to quality and the professionalism of its members.
There are many areas of trucking. As has been said, do your research in order to identify what area might be best for your lifestyle/personality.
