2004 is not an emission era truck,

I have a pre-emission truck and would either look for another OR a 2016 or later that is whole

The possibility that something or someone could make problems are low BUT they can be costly.

Didn't the ISX of that era have cam problems also?

2004 trucks have an EGR system.

  2. I would investigate the company that wrote the tune for the truck.  I've driven a deleted 2004 across the country, including California, and never did I need to be concerned about inspections.  This was a commercial truck so not exactly what you're considering but I can't imagine standards would be stricter for pleasure use.

I have not heard much activity on CB in years.  GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) is really becoming more popular, especially off road'ers.  Many truckers are switching from CB to GMRS, which may explain the decline of CB.  These radios work on the same frequencies as FRS but can use more power, better antennas, and repeaters (similar to amateur radio 70cm).  The advantages of FM on UHF band is better range and clear audio. GMRS requires a license but unlike amateur radio, no test is involved.  The license costs $35 for 10 years but covers your entire family.

    Safe Travels...

Can you use a traditional CB antenna with a GMRS radio?

For those who still use CBs what channel do you use. I always used 19 but i read that RVers use 13

19 is the communication channel for professional, and not so much professional, drivers.

We have a 2005 Teton 36 Experience w/ Mor ride airex suspension. We have only had this trailer 2 years and the only thing I have had to replace was the height control valve.  It seems to ride quit smoothly since the air ride changes the suspension to independent suspension. You now have the ability to adjust the height of the trailer, the higher you go the harsher the ride, much like on an air ride hitch. This trailer has air ride and dis brakes in all 4 places.

    Hope this helps

I don't believe they make that system any longer, although they do market something similar, but it's designed for single axle trailers.

  6. Yes, that is ground and can be connected to one of the ECM mounting bolts or wherever you can find a good connection point.  It's a critical ground so be sure every surface is prepped to be a mirror finish. All ECM connections are keyed.  Be sure you're in the right hole, so to speak.

Here in the north Austin area I use a tech that is not the cheapest, nor is he the most expensive, but his work and work ethic have me completely impressed. He charges $125 trip charge, and $150/hr labor. If he has to come back for some reason there is no trip charge and a couple times he has not even charged additional labor as he felt he should have solved an issue on the first trip.

And with that, I think I'll get into the mobile rv service business.  😅

Just checked Wichita area.  Costco is about $0.48 higher than some places called Jump Start near there.

350 gal x $.48 is.... not enough to make up for the drive.  But, that's over $1.00 better than Hutch.

We went through Wichita yesterday and I thought about patronizing that same Jump Start.  The placed just had that "sketchy fuel quality" look to me so I passed on by.

You can see almost the same thing at most truck stops. Wind pushing trash around, what's left of people after the military industrial complex gets done with them. Depressing as all get out. Used to be a thing, but after our visit 7 years ago, not interested in returning.

Well, I went to high school in a North Philly ghetto, thanks to my parents and the good Jesuits.  And I've spent more than my fair share of time in truck stops.  I imagine the folks who are living in Slab City have it all over the folks in either of the two places I mentioned.  A daily life without the hand of government in your face.  I could almost be convinced...

Towables have wheels too, and brakes that can overheat and cause fires.

And from the charts at my link above: "Of the 4,200 RV fires, 85% were not self-propelled, and the remaining 15% were self-propelled." (emphasis added)

Thanks for that info.  I missed it during my quick read of the link.
