  1. There are 2 fuses for the ECM as well.  One about a foot back on the main ECM harness, and another near the batteries- that one goes to ground.  There is a ground behind the lower dash panel by the steering column, and well as the main pass thru harness. There is also a ground that runs from the starter to frame.  I've replaced these as I've had issues with my "98 610.

Most of the weigh stations in SD are marked “RVs excluded”, although the fancy light up sign comes on. The weight station on I29 North of Sioux City does not have the exclusion sign, I’ve never pulled in though.

For what it’s worth, my empty one ton triggers the SD signs.

I highly doubt you will have any trouble with ND. The only two weigh stations used regularly are I94 west bound from Fargo, and I29 near Wahpeton. Most of their time is spent on mobile patrols.

I would be more concerned about MN in this area, they are the anything 10000 lbs plus type. For what its worth, I have never pulled in with the RV and they have never responded.

There are the 2 rest stops just east of Bismarck on I-94 that the State Patrol uses as a truck DOT inspection location.  I've blown by it so many times bobtail I doubt they even look anymore...

    yup,

All of my vehicles have some flavor of traction control / skip control.  The ones I have (BMW / GMC / Chevy / Ram / Jeep) you can disable to varying degrees (the Ram and Jeep you cannot fully disable without killing power to a relay for example).

Do a google search, I'm sure you can remove the feature if you don't want it.

Dave, yours has it as well, its a standard feature https://www.mycarspecs.com/car/2013-smart-fortwo-coupe-brabus

Dave, Yours has it.... Our 2013 has it.... there is a button on the dash, parallel S lines on a push button near the unlock button on the dash.  The light on the das will illuminate when you slide the car on snow/ice or are on a nice gravel road and drift a turn.  It takes a lot to make "Turn On- or take effect"..... I had to push the car to see it.

Carl, we're doing great thanks. The new job is just keeping me busy... but I'm having fun. Hope yall are well too

Another new job, or the new job that is a year old now?

  5. DRV must have an Amish technician that is color blind.... they had the 12v aux hooked to the trailer brake line.  When I hooked up and plugged in the trailer at Lazy Days, I heard the brake actuator- disc brakes- humming.  The trailer would roll until the pads and rotors started smoking... found and pulled the fuse for the brake pump.  There were other issues as well, but we won't go there tonight....

    Howdy Jim,

Thanks for your reply, yes, 2400 bucks is a lot of money but if it will pay you a decent amount should you be misfortune enough to need it; it's heck of a lot better then paying 2/3 of that and getting next to nothing in case of a total loss.

In my case I couldn't even buy the deck on my truck for what the actual cash value of a 20 year old truck may be.  We don't have a fancy trailer or a modern truck but for us it was a major investment that if totaled with what we could get from insurance would end our RV'ing as we do it now, at this age no way I could afford to spend the replacement cost to our truck and trailer.

Our old Volvo turned 23.... next time around I'm going to see if Hagerty's will cover it.

will this pull well enough to spend 30% of its time pulling heavy loads on the east coast?

Depends on what you mean by heavy... what are you pulling?  I'm in a 1998 Volvo 610 with an old M-11 set at 400/1450 with a 10sp and 2.93 gears.  It does fine pulling our 25k RV around.  Not the fastest up hills, but the jakeon the down hill is great.

. You don't have engine brake, mph reading. I use my GPS for MPH.

This is how I am getting around.

I feel your pain .... I lost my dash due to an ECM going bad... it was intermittent and took forever to track down.  One day I'd have the tac and fuel gauge, next day nothing, 3rd day everything would work perfect.....

    None. It rides better, too.

I put aftermarket wheels on our 2013, Went a size larger tire on the same rim size as the rear wheel size.  Car rides and tracks so much better.

  11. So I had summer windshield washer fluid in the tank windshield washer tank on mine.... and we went from a mild 70* fall to freezing to snow and ice in a 36hour period.  Needless to say the tank froze and cracked.... and here's the redneckery part.... that flexseal tape your see on TV.... it is currently 2 years old and is still holding..... To change the tank is to remove the batteries, battery box, and the outside skirt.... on a 23 year old truck that this area has never been dissembled.  The tape will stay for awhile longer.
