  1. Google DRV frame failures and you might come up with a few . There is no question that the DRV frame is sturdier than the frame under my Montana then again the DRV one street down from us has a GVWR 2000 lbs more than ours. They just might need a heavier frame to handle the additional weight. The folks that weigh our units at our national rally have data that documents that 60/65 % of units they weigh are overweight. We seem to have many frame design experts on these Rv forums that know Lippert makes a substandard frame .I am wondering why there has not been a lawsuit or recalls on these sub standard frames.

The certified welders that looked at our lippert frame all said they might have done it different but none of them called the frame sub standard or substandard welds.

I would say that the reason there haven't been any lawsuits is that the RV manufacturer fixes the issue, and if lippert can prove you were overweight then the warranty is void.

  2. Lippert is an assembler of pieces that the RV manufacturer's specifies. They don't seem to engineer anything, or check for any engineering issues in a design. They build exactly what is proposed, nothing more and sometimes less.

The other thing to remember about Lippert, is that they buy small companies with great products and remarket them under the Lippert name. Usually with a decline of quality and lack of customer service.

  3. Greetings everyone. First of all warmth hugs of comfort and understanding to Gail. I am the Alie part of Alie & Jim. I will confess that Jim is more active with his replies etc in other forums. But now he has introduced me to this one for the ladies- yipeee. I do have one question to start with if you don't mind. We are headed out next week to get our new baby (being a grandma - new pets and new toys are thus new babies); anyway we are getting a new to us HDT. My question is given the fact that I have not driven a standard vehicle in 20 years and this one is manual, on an average how long before I get beyond the terrified feeling at the thought of conquering the management of the big truck?

  4. The point is, that it is in their interests to at least try to preserve those revenues, by whatever means available to them.

Besides, the state of Texas may very well lose millions of license, and registration revenues. Do the math. If the average RV annual registration is $250/year, with 10,000 RV registrations, that is $25 million over 10 years.

I would bet, that the state of South Dakota would welcome those dollars.

Beg to differ on that, South Dakota will NOT get all those Rv'ers because they don't have any acceptable insurance for RV'ers..

    Different thread somewhere here..

  5. I just left NC. The vehicle taxes are tough and to renew your plate is a yearly inspection. 30 days grace that's it. If considering NC, emission testing is in most counties, county taxes as well as state taxes apply. Our 5th wheel was around 800 yr, Dodge pickup was 250-300 on taxes plus you had to have a "weighted tag" which for me was around another $360. Don't know about insurance there, as the plan I had got canceled after the move to South Dakota.

Now I'm watching this develop here in Texas which is the only ins option for me.
