oldjohnt
Good morning Miles, I'm not sure if this is the correct manual for an Onan hg6500 but check it out: Microsoft Word - 6500¤nF060211.doc (northerntool.com) That manual (if correct for your genset???) shows it can produce 120 VAC at 30 Amps via its 2 Pole 3 Wire Grounding Twist Lock Receptacle orrrrrrrrrr 120/240 at 30 Amps via its 3 Pole 4 Wire Grounding Twist Lock Receptacle by selecting 120/240 using its switch. QUESTION are you powering a 30 Amp RV orrrrrrrrrrrr a 50 Amp RV ???????????????????????? 1) If a 30 Amp RV, you would select 120 VAC, then plug into its 120 VAC 30 Amp Twist Lock Receptacle with a MALE 30 Amp Twist Lock Plug to a FEMALE NEMA TT-30R Receptacle Adapter into which you plug your 30 Amp 120 Volt RV Power Cord plug. 2) If a 50 Amp RV, you would select 120/240, then plug into its 120/240 30 Amp Twist Lock receptacle with a matching Male 30 Amp Twist Lock Plug to a FEMALE NEMA 14-50 R Receptacle adapter into which you plug your RV 50 Amp Male Plug. NOTE YOU ONLY HAVE 30 AMPS NOTTTTTTTT 50 LIKE AN RV 50 AMP PEDESTAL SUPPLIES While you can feed BOTH legs of a 50 Amp RV you ONLY have the power the Genset can supply NOT 12000 watts like a 50 Amp RV Pedestal The thing is iffffffffff your genset is the same as the manual I posted YOU STILL HAVE 120 VOLTS AT 30 AMP OR 120/240 AT 30 AMPS, ITS ONLY THE GENSET USES TWIST LOCK RECEPTACLES WHILE AN RV DOES NOT USE TWIST LOCK PLUGS, SO YOU NEED AN ADAPTER Male Twist Lock Plug to your RV suitable Female Receptacle The next issue is if the genset uses a FLOATING or a BONDED Neutral. Most similar set ups for RV use prefer a BONDED NEUTRAL and if yours is floating I can tell you how to correct that as an EMS and some surge protectors will trip out of fed with a FLOATING Neutral genset. A stand alone genset requires bonding to a proper Grounding Electrode but in RV mounted gensets the RV frame serves as a Substitute Grounding Electrode. I can help with all that later but have to report for a tour now of Red Rock Canyon so will check back later. YOU NEED TWIST LOCK MALE PLUGS TO NON TWIST LOCK FEMALE RECEPTACLE ADAPTERS suitable for your 30 Amp RV NEMA TT-30P PLUG OR 50 AMP NEMA 1405P PLUG....... IM BACK here are the adapters required for a 30 Amp RV and a 50 Amp: 1) 30 Amp 120/240 3 Pole 4 Wire Grounding Male Twist Lock Plug (into genset) to a 50 Amp 120/240 3 Pole 4 Wire Grounding NEMA 14-50R Female Receptacle where RV plugs into Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Generator Adapter - 50 Amp Female to 30 Amp Twist Lock Male - 12" Mighty Cord Generator Plug Adapters A10-G30450VP (etrailer.com) 2) 30 Amp 120 Volt 2 Pole 3 Wire Grounding Male Twist Lock Plug (into Genset) to 30 Amp Female NEMA TT-30R Receptacle where RV power cord plugs Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Generator Adapter - 30 Amp Female to 30 Amp Twist Lock Male Mighty Cord Generator Plug Adapters A10-G3030AVP (etrailer.com) Finally in the event the genset has a FLOATING NON BONDED NEUTRAL and you need/want a BONDED Neutral system, here's a Bonding Plug. All it does is jump/wire the Neutral to the Ground, you can make one yourself cheaper Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators Hughes Autoformers Generator Plug Adapters HU33FR (etrailer.com) There ya go hope this helps and answers your question, if not post back any questions. I probably missed something and if so hope the other fine electrical minded gents can add to this John T Edited November 1, 2021 by oldjohnt
oldjohnt
Here is a picture of an adapter described above. These are from e trailer. Plug them to genset and RV to them you're good to go subject to any grounding or bonding I described above John T
