Going to Acadia Nat'l Park This Fall?

This Fall Acadia will require that you have a reservation for entry to the park just as Rocky Mtn. and Yosemite have done this summer.  However, it may be permanent at Acadia to manage the crowds.

We spent the past two summers volunteering at a National Fish Hatchery near Ellsworth Maine and can say that the situation on Mt. Desert Island, including Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia NP was pretty awful from late-June through the time we left, typically in early October. Between the "normal" visitation and cruise ships unloading thousands of people each day, it was chaos. While many folks will find this reservation requirement to be inconvenient, something really needed to be done.

We learned that the coastal areas to the east and west were just as beautiful, and far more relaxing. I'll be interesting to see if this reservation system "solves" the problem.

Too bad that so many of our National Parks are becoming the last places we would want to go to for serenity and nature.
