back with questions

Been away in Turkey for last 8 weeks but now back and hotting up the planning of our 6 week coast to coast trip next year. I have a few questions.

is it advisable to subscribe to a National Park membership?

I have been looking at the America the Beautiful web site with a view to purchase a year subscription to USA Nation Parks as we will be staying in quite a few. Is it worth while and is this the best subscription to purchase? I presume it just covers the entrance to the park and not overnight stays?

thanks in advance

That is a card that is issued to one person but allows entrance free. There are more than 4000 sites that it is usable at and not just in the national parks but nearly all federal parks by any agency.(National parks and monuments, National Wildlife Refuges, Army Corps of Engineer lake parks, Bureau of Land Management facilities, etc.) Since it costs only $80 and the park entry fees are typically from $15 to $35 per vehicle and other agencies lower fees but it is very easy to use enough to make it save money. For example, Yellowstone NP & Yosemite NP are each $35, Grand Canyon is $30, Bryce Canyon NP is $35, so as you can see, the $80 pass is a bargain!

From the NPS website:

Quote

A pass covers entrance, standard amenity fees and day use fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle at per vehicle fee areas (or up to four adults at sites that charge per person). Children age 15 or under are admitted free.

If you like casinos there is Tunica. (Not my thing) and you will cross the Natchez Trace, which is my sort of thing. You could quite easily take the trace from Jackson to Natchez with only a minor modification of your route.

Others may have suggestions as well.

and another question......

I seriously am losing the will to live trying to find a nice RV park around the Ventura area of California that will accept a one night stay....

I have been looking for hours now and every park says a minimum of two night...this is purely because by the time we pick up the RV and shop for everything we need for 6 weeks and purchase bikes it will be late and we won't want to be getting on the road at night...any recommends greatly accepted...we only want sites with hook ups so we can get used to everything before the big push....

where would be a nice stop between Memphis and New Orleans?

If you take the Great River Road (US-61) instead of the Interstate, you will go through or near Tunica, Vicksburg and Natchez which all have things to see and do. Vicksburg would be about half way between Memphis and New Orleans. You can explore parts of the Natchez Trace Parkway. US-61 is also known as the Blues Highway. Depending on the flood stage of the River, you may be able to stay at one or more of several parks right on the river where you can see the barges going up and down the Mississippi.
