Ronald Eaton Posted April 15, 2017 Report Posted April 15, 2017 Hi All, I just bought a used Diesel pusher and I'm wondering about registering it in Texas through the Escapees mail center to avoid the sales taxes here in California, is that possible ? I attended the 57th escapade in Tuscon and saw a lot of Texas license plates, any thoughts
Jack Mayer Posted April 15, 2017 Report Posted April 15, 2017 Sure, it is possible if you follow all the CA tax avoidance guidelines. But you have to follow them to the letter of the law, or CA WILL come after you. Jack & Danielle Mayer #60376 Lifetime Member Living on the road since 2000PLEASE no PM's. Kirk W Posted April 16, 2017 Report Posted April 16, 2017 Welcome to the Escapee forums! While what you have been told is true, you won't be able to do that and still keep the RV at your California home. The reason for so many TX license plates at Escapade is that so many of us either are fulltime and use TX as our domicile, keeping no permanent home anywhere & some of us actually reside in TX and own a home there. I suggest that if you live in CA and intend to continue to do so, you probably won't be able to do this to legally avoid taxes. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Ronald Eaton Posted April 16, 2017 Author Report Posted April 16, 2017 Thanks for the input i appreciate it , I'm going to live full time starting this fall traveling the USA ,not sure how long i will last , I'm renting my house out while I'm gone , will that change anything ?

I would make sure that you file a partial year CA income tax return as an announcement to the state revenue department that you are moving away.
