trostberg
Thought I would pass along this article. I heard some discussion on the radio about another one perhaps not too far from the Escapee Co op Park in Washington http://mynorthwest.com/11/2892763/More-cityrun-homeless-camps-coming-to-Seattle-but-for-RVs
Kirk W
Nothing in Seattle is at all close to Chimicum as it is less than 20 miles from where you are at Port Townsend. Evergreen-Coho is about a mile or so to the north of the Chimacum high school and it is about 50 miles and a ferry ride from Seattle.
trostberg
The radio discussion was on a local PT station about a old county park in Chimacum as a possible location in this area.
Kirk W
So Seattle wants to export their problems over the sound to someone else? That would be what is sounds like. Reading the article from your link, there is no mention of moving them across the sound, just a bunch of neighborhoods that are part of Seattle. lasttruck
Seattle's mayor is working on two spots in the Seattle area for homeless RV's. There are currently a few enclaves of RVs parking on the street and a gross upswing in crime, trash, used needles, etc. in those neighborhoods. In Jefferson County, once the Winter shelter closes in mid-March, there has been an effort to find a place for the homeless to stay ala a tent city. Last year, they migrated between the Fairgrounds and Ft Worden State Park until either money or the welcome ran out. Jefferson County has a number of campgrounds under their control with a few that have not been open for a number of years. The thought is that the homeless could set up there for the summer. One of the those parks is in the community of Chimacum. Problem is that there is only water and a vault toilet there, with a community center next door (has kitchen facilities). Not a likely solution, but still a possibility. Recently there has been talk of inviting the homeless RVs that are scattered about the streets in Port Townsend and the woods outside of the city limits (Port Townsend is the only incorporated city in Jefferson County) into those proposed camps.
