phoenix2013
Load and hook up your fifth to the truck and take it onto the CAT scales. You'll get the actual weight that the tires see in the third number. the second weight will be truck axle plus the pin weight. Unhook and weight the truck alone. the rear axle weight will be now just the truck, the difference between this weight and hooked up will the pin weight. It's true that the tires will see only the weight minus the pin weight (not the gross weight of the fifth). The problem is that the tires regularly are overloaded going over uneven or rough roads, curbs, dips etc, etc. Typically it's the sidewalls that fail, although I did peel of the casing once.
