Since most everyone I know leaves their Location, Bluetooth, and wi-fi turned off most of the time, this doesn't work.  Those three apps use up the majority of your battery life just doing nothing.

You're certainly entitled to your choice of whether to leave those three features disabled or not, and I believe you that most everyone you know does so.  However, your last sentence is completely incorrect.

I don't know what phone you use, but on my iPhone I can see in the settings under "Battery" exactly which apps are using the battery power.  Location services, bluetooth, and wi-fi are not listed.  They are not "apps".  The apps which use those three features are listed, none of which use much battery life at all.

I leave location services turned on for a few apps, like Maps, Compass, Gas Buddy, Dashcam, etc.  I can select which apps to use location services for and which not.

I leave bluetooth turned on to connect to my truck when I'm driving, so I can talk and text hands free in the vehicle.  The phone also connects to my smart watch through bluetooth.

I sometimes turn wi-fi off, but generally leave it on so when I walk into my house I can use wi-fi instead of my phone plan data.

To say that those features are "just doing nothing" is not close to true.

  2. Not surprising.  No two States combined have as many lane miles of highway as Texas, except California which has less than 60% of that in Texas.  https://blog.cubitplanning.com/2010/02/road-miles-by-state/  If you only found 30 miles of bad stuff, that's pretty good.

In my travels west of the Mississippi, I found several stretches of bad road.  The three worst were IH30 in Arkansas, IH80 west out of Truckee in California, and in my home State of Colorado IH25 from Trinidad to Pueblo.  It's my understanding that all three have since been improved.

IH10 in Louisiana used to get a lot of complaints on this forum, don't know if it's been improved or not.  Overall, I found the highways in the US to be in pretty good shape, considering how many miles are put on them.

Personally, I would not have an outdoor kitchen.  It eats into valuable storage space as well as carrying capacity.  I guess if you are a weekend user it might be of some benefit.  But I carry a small portable gas grill and a small folding table.  This has worked since 1884 as well as 10 years full time living.

I would guess that in 1884 a lot of campground cooking was done outside.  You were the exception.

When we set her laptop up initially we did have to create a Microsoft account for her in the course of the process.

Microsoft wants to be like Apple so bad.  They want you to buy into their unified ecosystem.  Apple requires that you create an Apple identity and use it on every Apple device.

On Windows 10, when doing initial setup on your new MS laptop, you can just turn off the wifi and you can go by the sign-in screen by agreeing to do it later.  Is that still the case with Windows 11?

just expressing how I think about how fortunate I am to be able to do this without having to worry about whether I can afford it.

    I admire you for that.

After scrimping and scratching my whole life, now that I'm financially comfortable I find it difficult to share sometimes.  I've been trying to do more of what you're doing in my old age, but it so goes against my lifelong habits of frugality.  🙂

Verizon is also offering similar service for $25/month.

Do you have a link for this service?  I tried T-Mobile Home Internet and the speeds were great, until they weren't.  At times, I couldn't even browse the net, much less stream video.  I sent it back.

Verizon has great wireless service in my area, but I haven't seen any wireless offers for $25 month.  In fact, even though the Verizon cellular service is much better than T-Mobile's, Verizon Home Internet is not offered here.  I did see where they are offering fiber internet service for $25, but no fiber close to me.

Has anybody used the FUEL SAVE PRO chip which plugs into the OBD2 plug to reconfiguring The gas sensor and increase the gas mileage by 30%?  The developer is reported to be the whistleblower who exposed the European smog control fraud case.

It is possible to improve mileage over manufacturer's stock tuning.  However, manufacturers have top notch engineers and have tuned your vehicle to it's highest performance and efficiency under the mandates they are given.  They have to consider pollution standards, reliability, and longevity.  Those are just three of the variables they have to deal with.

If you throw those requirements out the window, then yes, performance can be improved.  I doubt that 35% is a realistic number though.  Why would you want to ignore those standards though?  Do you not care about the environment and dependability of your vehicle?

I've studied these tuners and their results for many years, even tried a couple of the more popular and expensive ones.  While they did deliver more power and better efficiency, it was nothing near 35%.  There are ways to safely enhance and improve the performance of your vehicle, but it involves much more modification than just a simple plug in tuner and the costs are such that they will never pay for themselves in gas mileage.

Like others have said, if it was so simple the manufacturers would already be doing it.  The best way to get the most gas mileage out of your vehicle is to slow down.  The biggest obstacle is aerodynamics.  The faster you drive, the harder it is to move the atmosphere out of your way and the more energy you will expend doing so.

And the college professor borrowed it as well since it was originally said much, much earlier. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country." ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero, 63 B.C.

And Cicero got it from Cro-Magnon man who said "Grunt, grunt...grunt-grunt grunt".

Anything anybody says has been said before, like deja vu all over again.

Tomorrow we head to Amarillo and are taking the north loop around the city.

I've been through Amarillo many, many times.  Absolutely no reason to take the loop around.  IH40 is a breeze through town, especially on a Sunday.
