They are planning to work part of the year. She has 30 years hospitality business experience and he is a professional chef. First, thank you for the responses. We have three girls. This is the eldest at 49 and both she and SIL are in good shape and active. All three daughters are hard-headed as mules (I wonder where they got that? lol). I've learned to suggest when asked for an opinion rather than try to dictate. Jinx and I have suggested that just maybe they just might, possibly, perhaps be happier with more space and more tank capacities. That got them up from the Meaner Bean teardrop. The MB was so small that the company uses a 5'5" man to demonstrate the TT. That is progress. We've suggested that they should actually get in the RV and simulate daily activities before buying. I am confident that they will do that. I will pass along the mock up suggestion as an extension of our advice.I expect that is the limit of influence regarding size and facilities. They will have a PU with a cap for stuff. SIL is aware of TV capacity issues. He has moved up from the idea of a smaller PU as TV. I will mention the Technomedia folks and that they moved up within the year. Selling within a year would probably involve taking a big monetary l loss. Good morning, Grumpy! I heard what the OP said about towing. It is the same thing Jinx said about a dually - and now we have a dually. Information is good and is easy to ignore if unnecessary. Were you working daily when you were without a car? A car is not absolutely necessary, but commuting to work in the OP's living space and setting up camp every day for ten years may be less than fun. If the OP has a partner, that person can drive the car from place to place, but if not things could get pretty inconvenient without a dinghy or a towed vehicle. Try a bit south of Portland. We stayed at Yankeeland RV in Kennebunk in August. Nice place. It is a couple of miles from from 95 so its prettybe quiet. Pricey but may be less off season. Mostly seasonals but they have about twenty travel sites. We had FHU/50. It is about a half hour run to Portland via I-95 and I-295. Even with a government funding shutdown Acadia NP should be accessible less bathrooms, campgrounds and visitor center. Many of the roads through Acadia are also the roads that access other communities on the island. Acadia is honeycombed with little slivers of private land that require access. Our 5er came with the dirt devil central vac. It has plenty of power. The unit itself is accessible for changing bags through the basement. The hose and attachments live under the step up into the bedroom. An added benefit is the vac "dustpan" - a vac outlet in the side of the step that will suck up sweepings. We installed a 50 gal low profile Transfer Flo Trax 3. See the link to an article about its operation. It fits under the tonneau. It is absolutely seamless in operation. The down side is price. I can't tell you much about Mass and info on the Ticondaroga leg will have to wait until after 9/27 when we arrive there. Maine, however, is where I am now. Your timing is good - you should be in Maine/NH/VT in the peak of leaf peeping. You can monitor Maine foliage conditions online. Internet access is going to be spotty. If you are using cellular be cure to check the CG's coverage in Campendium. If you are looking for CG's in Bar Harbor area start now. Often those are booked far ahead for spots in the summer and during leaf peeping season. You may need to be a bit out of BH and drive in. The traffic on and off-island is often miserable but should be a bit less crazy at that time. It is likely to be a question of what you can get. The Schoodic Point section of ANP is well worth visiting and has a CG that will take your size rig. I don't know if they have vacancies. They are water and elec - no sewer. Be aware that most CG's in northern NE close around Columbus Day. That should not be a problem with your schedule but keep it in mind. It may be an issue at the end. Places to see: Penobscot Narrows Observatory at Ft Knox in Bucksport. Amazing views of oceans, mountain and foliage. Here. You can stop on the way to BH if you swing down Rte 1. Otherwise a trip there is worth it. Cadillac Mtn, ANP. Seeing the sunrise at Cadillac Mtn is high on many people's list. It has become so crowded that you need to make a reservation. Schoodic Point - one of the least visited areas of ANP. Great photo opportunities. I am told by an RV tech that adding something to break down the poop fats and agitation both help. He recommended several gallons of hot water and 1/4 to 1/2 cup of dawn, and then drive around for an hour. Dump and repeat as necessary. I would add a cup of borax first dissolved in the hot water. The answer is it depends. When we leave in the spring it is often not right at the end of a month. Often it is a few days into the next month. That park charges us a pro rated daily rate based on the monthly charge for the extra days. I think this is due in part to it being off season when we leave. Conversely, the prior FL park charged daily or weekly rate for the extra time. So it depends. Ask before you book. And post the information in the review. There was no way on earth Jinx is going to get behind the wheel of a HDT that didn't involve kicking and screaming. Convincing her of the need for a dually was tough enough. My solution to increase the safety margin was to upgrade the RV brakes to electric over hydraulic disc brakes and to also upgrade the wheels, tires and suspension. Lots of opinions. We have a solidly built rig with well attached tanks. I also have a flushing system for the black tank - When the tank is open I can attach a hose and spray the inside of the black tank. This removes solids. I do not leave the gray valve open when parked and attached to sewer. I dump black and then gray when either tank needs to be dumped. I like to be able to flush out the hose with gray water after dumping the black tank. That way any drip when disconnecting is less pungent. Also there are solids in the liquid going into the gray tank, despite wiping everything before dishwashing. My feeling is that leaving the gray valve open allows solids to build in that tank, too. I like to get the trailer mostly ready for travel the night before a travel day. I dump tanks the night before traveling. I don't like the weight of an even half full tank (200#). By the time we leave the next day there is a small amount of liquid and solids in the tanks. I like to have that slosh around in the tanks when traveling. About once per month on a travel day I dissolve a cup of borax in three gallons of water and dump it in the tanks before travel. I then dump in 1/2 cup of dawn dish detergent. I do this for each tank. When we next stop and hook up to sewer I immediately dump. This appears to remove buildup. When I first started doing it I got a lot of fatty chunks out of the gray tank. After about six months of this I don't see many solids. Since the rig was used I suspect that was the old buildup. I haven't looked so this is just a suspicion now. Some folks have said the detergent can foam up through the sewer/pipes. I haven't had this happen As for dump frequency my limiting factor seems to be black water. We go five days comfortably for two. Somewhere in day six the tank will burp when flushed. That is a sign that immediate dumping is needed. If you don't dump then the vent can be blocked and the smell can get pretty strong. After dumping the tanks I flush two bowls full of water down the black tank so there is always some liquid in it.
