I understood fully what you meant.

I panic anytime something is different or strange with the truck, until I know for sure whether it can be fixed.

More importantly, can I afford to fix it.

YES ! Somebody gets it thank you!

Well then, I think you very much need to find a way to start building a rainy day fund for your truck. EVERYTHING associated with an HDT ccosts more than what you may be accustomed to and things will break.

    Best of luck to you.

Yes I'm well aware of how much HDT cost I've had mine for over 7 years .now  I've been very fortunate the only thing I've had to do to it is put a new transmission in it and believe you me they are not cheap.

Do your own service and then you won't have that problem.

Good idea .the only reason  I am  not doing this is because I am not a professional  truck driver nor am I a professional  diesel  technician. Although I can change my own oil and run a grease gun.i figure  it doesn't  hurt to let the pros. Take a look at it.to make sure I am not missing something. I usually do this every couple  of years. Yes I admit  my previous comparison was a extreme one. And I ruffled  a few fathers  out there in the hdt world. But like I said before when you live in a world where money doesn't grow on trees  this can be nerve racking.

Gotta agree with spindrift.  In the truck shop, it's only money, not life/health.

1st of all you don't know me that well to make the judgment call like that. I spent 19 days in a icu with my wife while she recovered from 2 aneurysms and a stroke. I am fully aware of what the  difference is.  The point I was trying to get  at .was when your not made of money  and money  doesn't  grow  on trees  it can be very stressfull.

    Uh, no.  Not even close.

Just smile at the Service Advisor and hand your credit card to him.

Alright this may be an   extreme Comparison. But it's still nerve racking.

  6.  Is just realized something. You know that feeling you get your stomach when you're sitting in the waiting room  Worrying about Is somebody at the hospital And what the results are gonna be. It's the same feeling you get when you're waiting in the waiting room of a truck shop Waiting for the results of your oil change And PM  kind of nerve racking.

  7.  OK well thanks for  The info. I think I've got My issue with   the  headlight fixed.  Yes it was a bad   ground Didn't find any evidence of critter's   chewing on wires. So the squirrels and raccoons  are safe for now. Thanks again for the help.

    Sounding more like lost ground

What color wires  Is typically ground. And how can I test the headlight to find which wire is ground.

  9.  Is just put a  Test light on everywire coming out of the headlights and for some reason every wireComing out of the headlights  Is  hot And no lights  are on. I am thinking bad head light fixture

  10.  So last fall before I   shut the truck down for the   Winter I installed new headlights .They seemed to work fine So just recently I got in the truck fired it up. Got a message on the dashboard that's stated headlight low beam open circuit  left side.  And then the marker light quit working also . anybody have a   wiring diagram 4  the headlights on  A  08   VNL 780? Any ideas why It just quit working?  It makes me wonder If it hasn't been attacked by some   wire chewing critters .  Oh is this going to be fun.I have noticed squirrels  milling around the truck. Also seen raccoons out there. If they are found guilty of chewing on my wires oh man it's on . I may have to ask for recipes that involve squirrel and racoon.

  11.  OK I thought I put this to rest again.  call (866) 634-3753 You'll be calling carb. They stated that all trucks that are license out of state Are not included In this new  Law. And also we are  Licensed as motorhomes Which again the law don't  Apply. they also stated All non commercial out of state  rv are welcome in California. But seriously if you have any questions call that phone number. that should clear up a lot of this. thanks.

  12.  Trailer saver  Hitches powder coating peels off. Makes a   Mess Other than for that  Seems to work OK for me.  Although I am not a full timer .I don't think it would last as long as a et hitch.  Depends on how you are going to use it .full time .weekend once a month. It comes down to what you can afford.

To be clear, you are talking bout the truck hitch?  Is the original coating paint, or powder coat?  What kind of hitch?

Truck hitch .And the powder coating is peeling off of it. Trailer saver.

  14.  So today I thought it would be a good idea to pull the 5th wheel   hitch off Our truck to inspect it  service it and check for cracks in the Welds.Every thing looks great .Except the paint. What kind of  paint would you use to prevent rust?

    Any pictures or link?

We have a Polaris Ranger with cab and heater we use at our Colorado cabin. It'll go anywhere with the tracks but due to gearing it cuts your speed in half.

     Google smart car on tracks

  16.  So I'm going to put this topic to bed finally. What you all have been saying about out of state trucks are still allowed in California. It' Is true I called carb  Yesterday  at 1 -866 -634 -3753. And yes to confirm what all you all have been saying Is  True. Our converted trucks that are license As  Is R v's Out of state are welcome in California. We are exempt from their new law. Thanks guys for your help
