  1. Hi teach my advice to you is check all advice given on this. Consult someone you can trust to confirm that advice given on this is legit. when I started my build  .I was told buy a well known individual  on this forum that what I was building would work fine . Two years later and several thousand dollars latter this person did an about face and said it would not work. Needles to say i was extremely pissed. This caused  a lot of sleepless nights thinking what have i done to my truck. Having no choice but to push ahead I finished the build any way . I remained tandem  yes it did unload the front axel a little. Truck seems to handle fine. Once I get jeep onboard should handle  even better .If push comes to shove i will hang tractor weights on the front bumper. ha:D Don't think i will have to go that far.

  2. Great news  batteries seem to be ok .After getting it started with f250 we  drove it about 10 miles brought it home put it on charger for a day pulled charger let it sit till yesterday went out and fired  it  up took it out and put about a 100 miles on it every thing seems to be working fine. thought I was going to have to buy four new batteries PHEW that was a close one wallet feels a lot better!!!

Interesting, my tow vehicle won't let you run the inverter with the vehicle turned off.  It has to at least be in the accessory position.

My inverter doesn't look like it was installed at the factory. It has no indicator lights any ware  except on the inverter itself. Definitely aftermarket . But you know I wonder  if I could wire it to the accessory switch ? You got me thinking. Hmmm.

I doubt that 5 minutes from your F250 would have charged them enough

Well my friend that is all it took 5 minutes and it turned over. You should never doubt someone you don't know it s like calling them a liar. Not a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Well I screwed up big time. I am admitting to this so I can try to keep someone else from doing this. Turned on inverter memorial day weekend to vacuum out the truck need less to say it got left on truck has been sitting since Then went to fire it up last night nothing not a light not any noise at all batteries totally dead. Thought I would hook up the old f250 and try to jump it. about 5 minutes of charging and the 780 came back to life. Was surprised the old f250 had enough in it to turn that big rig over. Hopefully I didn't ruin the batteries on the 780 we will see. The point to this story don't forget to turn those inverters off. Guess some of the newer rigs has a indicator light on dash  ours doesn't.

  6. One newer trucks you can not open spring side of air chamber even if you wanted to . BUT MAKE SURE YOU IDENTIFY THESE AIR CHAMBERS BEFORE ATEMPTING THIS.OPEN THE WRONG ONE YOU WOULD PROBABLY GET SERIOUSLY HURT. Lots of  kinetic energy stored in these things.

  7. Forget the whisper .Garden hose works great cut a four foot section of hose put one end near suspected air leak put other end near your ear you will hear the air leak easily.

  8. Well lets see we just got  our bed finished this spring  we have 14 ft of flat deck space and 6 ft of beaver tail over all length just under 20 ft. We  put a exploder on it, to long. Put a four door jeep to  long by 2 inches .We are in the proses of looking for a 2 door jeep should work fine. Know keep in mind with out moving the axels back you are going to unload the front axel. We unloaded ours 1000 lbs seems to drive fine. It will drive better with the jeep on it.

Harbor Freight (and other auto supply stores) sell "automotive stethoscopes" and, they're not very expensive (MUCH less than a "Whisper" tool). Basically the ear pieces you'd see on a medical stethoscope with a rubber-like tube connected to a thin metal tube about 18" long.

Garden hose has two uses 1 air leak detector and 2 Oklahoma credit card. My old chev pic up had a fuel tank switch issue . Had to syphon out of one tank and put it into the other .Not much fun .I was about 25 miles out in the bush sure glad I had it. Going to keep this one in the Volvo just in case.

I've had good success using the Inficon Whisper but it does take a little technique.

Also be careful holding the water hose piece to your ear, possibility for a ruptured eardrum.

you can turn the volume up or down this way the closer you get the louder it gets  the further away you get the quieter it gets.

Thanks for the tip. I was curious. Where was your leak at ?

    Al

Buried under a pile of hoses going threw the fire wall under the air governor. Thought it was leaking on the compressor.

  11. Was chasing an air leak to day. Tried soapy water tried a devise called a whisper to no avail. Went old school a piece of garden hose bingo found it been chasing this leak seems like for ever. An old truck driver taught me this trick . Take a four foot piece of garden hose put one end in your ear then take the other end and begin checking fittings .Kind of like a doctor would do with a stethoscope works great. If there is a leak you will definitely hear it.

It's more important to think about your mobility AND PAIN between now and the next replacement.  Yes that's old school thinking.  Besides that, I was taking oral steroids for something unrelated, and right after that, my already weakened Achilles tendon snapped.  the docs asked if I was on steroids, i answered affirmative, and they said it MIGHT be related.    Cortisone might cause other complications is the point here.

Like maybe a torn rotor cuff?

  13. In my  case there is a couple of other reasons  why I am putting it off . I have a little under 1800 hours left till I retire  I am a concrete carpenter that deals with a lot of heavy work on a daily basis  Yes the doc doesn't want to do this til I turn 60 rite now I am 58. His reasons he doesn't want to replace it again when I am 80 to risky. Is this old school thinking? Yes when I started taking cortisone shots they where about 10 months apart now they are 6 months apart the a definitely loosing there effectiveness., Main reason is Money. Now with this being said for the guys that has been paying attention to my numbers they don't ad up. Let me try to explain them. In my field we have a retirement system that goes like this. Its called the 80 and out benefit. You take the credited years of service and ad them to your age if it adds up to 80 you can retire with full benefits. You are aloud 1000 hrs a year per credit. Currently I am scheduled to retire November 2020 in the mean time we will continue on grinding along. Thank you for sharing you info on this. Shure takes a lot of gloom and doom out of it. You can be sure the day after I retire I am going to get an overhaul on it. Thanks again for the info.

  14. First things first MR Cob thank you for your  service.

This is some good information .. I to am looking at a knee replacement I am  getting buy on cortisone shots doc is wanting to put it off till I am 60 to do it once .Been putting up with it for the last 10 years. You guys are confirming just what I have been hearing you get  out of it what you put into it. Hate to say this but no pain no gain. We will see.
