It was dumping dumping oil all over the ground again. This time it was ATF fluid coming from power steering reservoir. This stuff was erupting and was Foaming as it came out anybody out there. Have any ideas on what's causing this?

  4. I need help identify ing this part It is inside the rail on the Passenger side of the truck. Power steering hoses go to it and it looks like a square Box. Maybe a Junction Box definite crack in it what's it called? This is on a 08 vnl780 Lost all power steering oil completely dumped out of it. Stranded at rest area.

  7. It's a power steering cooler. It looks like a four inch square block has four hoses going into it. 2 for the power steering oil and the other 2 for Antifreeze coolant. We got the part coming from Seattle should be here some time around midnight or 1st thing in the morning. We'll have to run to nearest town pick up 3 five gallon buckets in new antifreeze.

Call for mobile mechanic, they are 24-7 and will have it repaired fast.

Do brace yourself for the price, but sure beats being stuck in a rest area.

I had to do it, price was cheaper than I expected, and I got to watch him diagnose and resolve the issue.

Helped me immensely when a similar issue popped up a couple years later,

Called for mobile mechanic a About 10 o'clock showed up around 11:30. Just to tell us it was out of his scope of work. And charged $385. Did a lot of calling found out this Part is on a National  backorder list. had Part houses and Wrecking yards. looking all over eastern Washington to no Avail. My son works over by Olympia at modern equipment. He managed to locate. The part south of seattle. He has a truck driver that makes a trip to Spokane every night. He thinks he might be able to get the part delivered to us by midnight we will see.

We’re almost all packed up.  We’ve got a few things to finish in the morning and then get on the road.  We’re going to take three days to get to the St. George, UT area.  Then we are going to boondocks for about a week in the area while visiting friends.  This is the first leg of our winding travels to the WCR.

Well sounds like you can't drive it a straight line either ha. We're headed to glacier next week  Yellowstone The next.  And then to Caldwell. We've been looking forward to this for years. A couple of pairs of socks and Underwear and we're off oh maybe some groceries too. As you Can tell the 2 of us are a little excited about going on vacation? It's been a long time coming..

Changing reservoir tank and coolant in my 2006 VNL 780 with Volvo D 12 engine.  Mine uses the red extended life.  Anyone know what the coolant capacity is on this engine?  Having a hard time finding it online and can’t locate my owner’s manual quickly.  I’m thinking 11 gallons but not sure.

I think you may be right when I Drained coolant to replace air compressor. I believe it was about 10 or 11 gallons but don't take my word for it. Because I think I lost about a gallon of it when I dumped it on the floor in the garage. Better keep looking.

  14. Just realized I have no more major projects In the wings oh what to do. Got my list of Chores done. Now we start on D w's list. Can I survive this? stay tuned! I have noticed over the last week or two my Dried out old cracked carpeter hands are starting to get soft. Is this a form of dish Pan hands I don't know. Is this retirement setting in? Is this the elusive unicorn they talk about?

We are just about a month away from the rally.  The schedule has been finalized and posted on the rally website home page.  There are a lot of services available to rally attendees this year and hopefully attendees will find them beneficial.

For those interested, a few of us will be gathering after the rally for some boondocking in the area near the rally site.  We will be at the Hemingway Butte OHV trailhead.  It is a nice secluded area and offers lots of trails for those so inclined to go offroading.

    See you in June.

Hey Chad do these trails accommodate  jeeps. If so we might be interested.

  16. So somebody out there said when you retire things will slow down. You'll be able to relaxe have fun go camping what a croc. Haha. Since my wife and I have retirerd back at the end of November. We have built a Hydroponics shed and hydroponics system and installed the new air compressor on semi. ' not once but twice Thought it was O ring but turned out to be bad air compressor. Painted bathroom painted deck. Repaired trailer from Trailer. incident that you all know about. And just finished up putting new upper and Lower ball joints CV axles axle bearings and a new upper control arm on Explorer. I Think. We are finally getting caught up knock on wood. After having my knee replaced I didn't realize how far behind I was getting on my chores. Next project get ready to go to Caldwell can't wait sounds like it'll be a lot of fun.

Sorry also for your misfortune and I agree totally with Corey.  Lots of folks won’t talk about their mistakes but that’s how we all learn.

I'm hoping somebody out there will learn from my mistake and that they Won't have to go through the embarrassment of seeing there rig sitting on the ground. And the landing Gears tore out of it. If you're going to the w c r It would be neat to meet you too. Time to shake it off. And go camping.

One of the great things about your post it the reminding everybody is that we get into habits and forget to perform simple inspections all around the trailer and truck. Messages like this remind us not to get in a hurry, to pull out that old check list and go over it a little more slowly.

Thanks for the great information. It is also great to see somebody who is humble enough to post stuff like this.

    Later,

    Cory O

Thank you so much you made my day. If you're going to the WCR this year we need to get together. I'd like to meet you. We got our new gearbox in Today and all I have to do is in install it and everything's back to normal. Thanks for the great thoughts we appreciated  them.
